I recently purchased a pattern that had multiple sizes in it. I would need to cut two different sizes from that pattern. I'm a bit challenged in this area and can't seem to figure out the best way to do that. Help!

I always trace my size(es) off onto tissue paper, so I can reuse the pattern if I want to. If you are using 2 sizes on one piece, you just transition form one size to another. For example: I need a smaller size on top, so for a dress, I trace the smaller size around the neck, shoulders and armholes, then gradually trace out to the larger size as I go down the side seam.
I hope this makes sense. Ask more if you need to!

KC, my MIL folds the pattern to keep it intact for various sizing...

I was taught by Mum to trace off the appropriate sizes, thereby leaving the pattern intact (I like to use parchment paper).
You can also cut out to the largest size and fold the other sizes under, which I have also done. Tracing is much easier though

Thank you, everyone!! I can now start on the girls' dresses and hopefully finish before summer ends.

It depends. If the pattern is cheap (99 cents sale at JAF) I'll buy two and cut the different sizes - otherwise I trace them off.
I use anything for tracing. Newsprint, old wrapping paper (Christmas paper that's too wrinkly to use because I didn't put it away properly . . .not that that happens to any of you ), whatever works.
I need to do this myself. I'm making --last month of summer-- matching dresses for the three girls and am using one pattern for the two olders. I only have one so I'm tracing.

I use non- fusible interfacing....the cheapest I can find. I was sewing for 2 girls and used the patterns repeatedly. It really stood up to reusing over and over.

You can use just about anything for tracing as Michele mentioned but I thought I'd mention my favorite - Swedish Tracing Paper. it comes on a roll and is semi-transparent for easy tracing but doesn't tear like tissue paper does. And it's sewable - you can use it to baste up a pattern to try the size. It might be overkill for an easy pattern you just want to use once, but if you use something over and over, or are making lots of adjustments to the pattern, it's great. You can get it at Sewbaby and also I think at Birchstreet clothing. There is a also a woman who co-ops it, Debbie Cook - i think her yahoogroup is called Kwiksew something.
