Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just blogged about a Mexican dress pattern that someone sent me a link to:
http://family-centered.com/needleworks/?p=221

I downloaded the pattern. It's very basic and I think would be a really nice beginning project for someone. I am going to make them WITH my dd's (except of course I am going to make the baby's dress myself).

Those 10 yards of cotton batiste I got on sale from Fabric.com will be perfect for this.

Just wanted to share.

Olivia and I downloaded the dress pattern and are excited to start. Is cotton batiste very see-through? I am trying to decide if this is the best fabric to order.

Michele,

I left a note on your blog, but I'll be really interested to see what you think about this pattern. I love this style of dress --- it's perfect for hot summers! But, Folkwear has one too that is so much more expensive I'm wondering where these folks are able to cut costs?????

Just wanted to bump this up--I know Michele has been busy with her adorable little baby booties , but has anyone had a chance to try out this pattern yet? My mother-in-law brought me some wonderful housedresses back from the Philippines a few years ago, but they're worn thin and in need of replacing. The style is very similar to this dress. I'm new to sewing though, so I'd like to read a review before I commit.

Thanks!
Celeste

We've started a "stitch and fellowship" at Church twice a month and I plan to work on mine then. I still need to wash the fabric - gotta remember to do that.

BTW Mary G.: I think the difference in price from this dress and Folkwear has a lot to do with this being a download pattern and Folkwear's being a printed pattern.

Celeste,

I bought pink gauze (I know, not traditional, but very summery) in enough quantity for dd (8) and I to make this for ourselves. Dd's is cut out (super easy) and I pinned in 6 pleats for her. Now she is sewing it on her own, and doing very well. We are not done yet, and I haven't finished cutting mine (which will be a top), so I can't give you any more info than that.
