Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok Ladies,
How do you decide how much fabric to purchase? Please don't tell me you only purchase what is required for a specific project!
I am so inspired by all of the lovely fabrics out there, that the temptation is to overbuy.
I am sewing some clothing (mostly for my daughters), things for the home (pillows, etc.) & craft-type projects. There are some great craft blogs out there for inspiration!
So if you do not have a specific project in mind right away do you buy fat quarters, one yard or some other measurement? I seem to fear using a lovely piece only to find something else that that fabric would have been perfect for.

We live in the country & I hate to drive into town for project supplies. This is my justification for stash building!

Blessings,
Angela

I was always told to buy at least 2 yards, 3 if you are thinking of clothing for that particular piece. HTH

Well, if it is a fabric I would use for my dds, I buy a good 9yds. I have three dds, and I like to make sure that have plenty of fabric for "oopsies" and mistakes, as well as anything leftover that I may be able to use for other projects.

if it is a fabric specifically for me, I buy about 6 yds. That is the most ANY of my patterns calls for...so even if I end up making a different pattern out of it, I'll definitely have enough, and some leftover for "other stuff".

I like to hit the clearance racks. If I find a good fabric, and yet don't have a specific pattern or project in mind, but have some general ideas..well, then I am more likely to buy all of it, up to 10yds. Never know what I might come across pattern/project wise....and if it's on the clearance racks, it's either $1-2, so it's not a HUGE investment at any given time....

I'm pretty stocked up on fabric, lol..

HTH

If I think it's going to be for clothing, I usually pick up about 2 yards. That's plenty for a dress for my dd, or a skirt for me (currently (over) using the "cute skirt" pattern).

If I'm buying the fabric because it's cute and I have no idea what I'm going to use it for (but probably a bag/purse/home dec pillow or something) I buy 1/2 yard. It seems to be plenty to work into a project.

If it's on sale and its cute, whatever I feel like. I bought some cute flip flop deoorator weight fabric last year at Joanne's for 1.50/yard. I pictured summer totes/bags so I bought 3 yards of it.

Clear as mud?

I just packed and stored boxes of material and of course I now want/need a bunch of it.   Of course it's in the back of the storage unit with the "needed" school books - Annie
Oh yes minimum of 2 yards though once when a beautiful linen was on clearance for 25 cents I of course bought 10yds
