How many of you have experienced this? Having had 5 first trimester miscarriages, I get really freaked out. I bled heavily for two days when I was 6 weeks along with Molly. It was heavy and totally unexplained, the pregnancy progressed just fine.
Well.....My period was due on Saturday, didn't show up, so dh picked up a pg test, I took it yesterday afternoon and it was negative ~ Still no period, so, being extremely impatient, I took the second one,(2 for 1 he said), first thing this morning and it was quite positive, then I started bleeding within the hour. It's just slightly more than spotting.
I have no idea what to think right now. I've been down the whole blood test road before and I don't want to do it again. I've called on St. Gerard and OLPH.

5 miscarriages? Wow, Lisbet...
I only had one full term pregnancy, but with lots of spotting in the first trimester. I forget the diagnosis, but everything was fine. My sister had the same thing.
But I understand your trepidation. I know if and when I see a positive next time that I will be holding my breath until that first trimester is done, and even then still a bit worried. But that's when I remind myself it's all in God's plans.
Having that positive mark does mean you have a little soul in you, and I rejoice at your blessing!

By the sounds of what has happened in the past the bleeding may not indicate a miscarriage necessarily, I will pray with you Lisa and hope that this one does not either.

Praying, Lisa! I've had bleeding with 3 out of my 4 successful pregnancies...spotting to slightly more than spotting. I have a diagnosed low progesterone problem though, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Hugs, prayers, and congratulations to you!

Lisa -
I think it is fairly common to bleed around the time of the first and second missed periods. I have had spotting during 2 of 6 pregnancies that carried to term. As long as the HCG levels were high on the quantative blood test the OB ordered, I was told there is nothing to worry about. I think the urine PG tests also are measuring HCG levels. Since the urine test is less sensitive than the blood test, I would think that a positive urine test indicates a healthy level of HCG, so things should be fine.
Praying that all is well and continues well.
and, most of all, Congratulations
Peace,
Nancy

I've had spotting to slightly more than spotting at the time I'd expect my period with 3 of my pregnancies (including this one.)
With my twins, I started bleeding enough to convince me my period had started, but then it abruptly stopped. I spotted a few days later, felt like I was having contractions... Had an ultrasound done, and discovered I had conceived triplets and was losing one. Every Friday for 3 or 4 weeks, I would have spotting, then it stopped, and I carried my twins to 35 weeks.
I know what you mean about being freaked out, though. After losing two (possibly three), I worry at every little twinge. It's almost like I *expect* to miscarry now, which is bad.

Lisa,
See if you can get some progesterone and vitamin E. I've used progesterone suppositories in the past. I spotted with my Caroline and was put on complete bedrest for about a week. She was just beautiful and fine. I've also had two miscarriages - the first was with very little bleeding, the second was really heavy.
Get off those feet and see about some supplements to see if they'll help at all. I'm praying for you, Lisa. I'm on the watch until week 14 of every pregnancy...
Keep us posted.

Lisa,
Congratulations and I'm sorry. It must be so stressful to see blood one hour after the test was positive. I had one miscarriage. It started with two separate very light spotting around 9 weeks. Then heavy bleeding and cramping at 12 weeks. With my last pregnancy I had some bright red blood at 9 weeks and then everything was fine. I'll be thinking of you and praying for you.

Sometimes there is bleeding when the baby's circulatory system 'hooks up' to mom's via the placenta and that does happen fairly close to when you would expect your period.
Praying that (or something else benign) is the case for you!

Praying for you Lisa. I did have spotting at around 7 weeks with my 4th - but it stopped and all was fine.
Hugs

Thanks for all the prayers and positive words. I'm still spotting this morning, and I still just don't know what to think! I almost wish I never took the pg test at all.

Oh, how I know that feeling! And how about when it's negative...then I wish I hadn't taken it, because then I'm in a downer mood and doubtful until the flow comes.
Still praying, Lisbet! Perhaps you might want to make an appointment for a blood draw, to confirm the pregnancy, the level of HCG and progesterone? And then supplemental progesterone?

In my last pregnancy, I had a little bit of bleeding at 11 days post ovulation - implantation, I guess. I lost that one at 5 1/2 weeks along. The pregnancy before that, I had bleeding (more than just spotting) at about 5 1/2 weeks, and went for an ultrasound. They could see the spot where the bleeding came from, but couldn't give a reason. Everything was fine that time.
I will be praying for you!

Thank you everyone. The bleeding totally stopped today, it never got heavy, nor did I have cramps, but it was more than spotting. I phoned my midwife yesterday and she suggested "Carry On" tincture, which I've been taking since yesterday, and I began progesterone cream last night too. Another glaringly positive pregnancy test this morning. I've been down the blood draw road before, and it was horrible on me and my family. My husband and I agreed not to do that again unless it was life or death. (we lost that baby after good strong levels too, so it was kind of misleading anyway, the heartache was fierce.)
I am 4 weeks along to the day. Thanks again for all the prayers and kind words.

Congratulations, Lisa.
I will keep you in my prayers.
I had major bleeding with my 2nd pregnancy. (They suspect I was miscarrying a twin because they saw a small undeveloped sack nearby.) Carried her full term.
The only other time I bled majorly I miscarried at 6 (or was it 8?) weeks. Edited again to say actually this was my 3rd pregnancy. In the next line #3 is my third living child.
I had spotting with #3 and one of the others (#4?) but carried them full-term.
Good luck!
Edited to add: Lisa, I see the baby was born this past May. You were breastfeeding right? Hope this doesn't offend. I'm just interested in the dynamics of breastfeeding and conception.

Thanks Cay! I bled early in Molly's pregnancy too, and she's a lively little girlie girl!
Yes, I'm breastfeeding. All but my first (of course) were concieved while 'ecological' breastfeeding, many times nursing more than one! :) My fertility returns between 2 and 4 months each and every time.
