After reading the other threads about the Feingold diet I began to question whether my own daughter may have diet related problems. Dd2 is 7yrs old and does exhibit some symptoms that are aided by this diet, none of them extreme except for the bedwetting and daywetting. We have even started to give her a pull up(pampers) for the night, which she acccepts readily. She can go through 3 pairs of underwear a day - not sopping wet, but wet enough to have to change them. She also began pooping in her pants 2 months ago, which is better now, but occurs on occasion. Today at Mass she was chewing on a part of her coat, and then I thought - OH NO!
Her teacher told me that dd2 has poor fine motor skills, which I disputed because I know that she could cross stitch very well. We always were astonished how well Maria worked with her hands as a 5yr old even. But the Teacher sees something that we just aren't noticing? Her writing is not that nice, it is true.
I just don't know, and I don't want to make a big deal out of this, when maybe this is just something she will grow out of.
Maria is so so loveable and would prefer just to curl up with you on the sofa and listen to beautiful music to dream to...
Any thoughts? advice?

Stephanie,
I have a daughter the same age with the same wetting problems as your daughter - my herbalist has always said that she has a kidney weakness that wheat and dairy aggravates - she always gives her kidney herbs and I have to admit that when she is on them, it all stops. Trouble is when she is not...it starts up again so I am interested to hear other advice too.

Almost 2 years ago we went to a childrens nephrologist with Maria because of the wetting. It turns out that dd only has 1 kidney, but it is healthy and that is not the problem. The doctors said they see this wetting often in this age group. I was relieved to hear that naturally, but now it is getting worse and not better and we are noticing other weaknesses in addition.
Anne , what are the kidney herbs?

Stephanie,
I don't know unfortunately, as she would make up a bottle for her and it was usually have 5 different herbs in it, working in synergy together. I am sorry that is no help - a good herbalist in your area maybe able to treat your daughter in a similar way though - it might be worth checking out.

Anne,
We did cut out the apple juice, apples... and since then dd2 has not had any daytime accidents! Nights are also good.
As I mentioned before she was very willing to give this a try, so maybe a lot has to do with her own motivation. I just wanted to let you know about our present success.
NOTE: apples played a big role in dd2's diet before we began.

Stephanie,
Thank you for sharing that! We are BIG apple eaters here - we buy them organic and in big boxes so as to get them very cheap, hence we eat alot! But I have not been buying them in the last 6 weeks and there have been no accidents in my recent memory that might connect to that - I will put it to the test~! Thank you!

Here is an update.
Dd2 stopped eating all things apple and in addition all things cinnamon. I had read that cinn. also has this salisytates(sp) in it, and decided to strike it too.
So , Wednesday we made Kaiserschmarrn for supper and dd2 wanted cinnamon and sugar on it.(we all eat it like that) I thought we could try it out... Next day, she has to change her pants 2 times because of peepee. It took her a couple of days to settle down again.
It is really interesting how this all works. She is eating a lot of pears!
