Hello ladies...

I have a question maybe someone here can answer. DH and I have been "trying" to conceive another child for the last year. I say "trying" in quotes because we have never "not" tried/avioded just didn't have cycle return until ds was 14 mos.

DS (21 mos) is still nursing 1x during the day and a couple times at night. As a result (I'm guessing this is due to nursing) my cycles have been really long and irregular (45-52 days)and I have very little cm.

DS isn't quite ready to wean so I am wondering if anyone knows of any natural ways to regulate my cycle and increase cm?

I am open to any suggestions.

Thanks!

Ryane,

I'm assuming that cm=cervical mucus?

For increasing cervical mucus, try drinking more water, increase your intake of vitamin A rich foods, and you could also try taking guaifenesin. Guaifenesin is an ingredient found in over-the-counter cough medicines that increases the fluidity of bronchial mucus; it can have the same effect on cervical mucus. You would start taking it after your period ends or when your mucus discharge begins, but at least five days before your usual Peak Day. Stop taking it on the second day after Peak Day.

Are you charting your cycles? Do you know how long your luteal phase is? A short luteal phase could be part of the problem.

You might also try taking a good multi-vitamin, if you aren't already. I highly reccommend reading Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon for suggestions on supplements. The Art of Natural Family Planning by John and Sheila Kippley also has a few chapters on trying to conceive.

I teach the sympto-thermal method of NFP through CCL, so if you'd like to ask a question privately, feel free to PM.

That is just the type of information I was looking for.

I second Dawn's advice. There is OTC Mucinex that makes it easier to take because it's time released. That's what my doctor recommended. Just make sure it's only the expectorant version.

Also, Evening Primrose Oil and Vitamin E help.

Jenn and Ryane,

I just wanted to let you know that when my sister started working at a hospital and was able to access their pharmacy, I was able to get the generic Guafenesin for at least 1/3 of the cost of Mucinex. It may be that other pharmacies stock it behind the counter; while it will still be available without a scrip you will have to request it. It may be worth a try.. it's so much cheaper.

Thanks Jenn and Gwen

I am experiencing what I think MIGHT be implantation bleeding right now (a girl can hope, right? )

but if it is in fact just my normal period I will be using these suggestions this next cycle.

Thanks again.

Ryane, may I ask what makes you think it is implantation rather than your period? I am dealing with something here myself and I'm not real sure what to think.

Hi Lisa..

Sorry if this is TMI but I figured all the info I could give would be helpful to you.

At the end of last week I noticed some brownish/pink spotting that has basically continued off and on since. It is pretty light (never needing a pad or anything)and mainly noticable when I wipe. I have read that implantation bleeding occurs generally 9-12 days post- ovulation and is generally brownish /pinkish and does not look like a regular period.

Is that helpful? I'm no expert, but if you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

Prayers for you,
Ryane
