I have been battling plantar fasciitis for almost year now, and I am slowly making the switch to the Orthaheel brand, which I think really does help- at least, compared to my other shoes, they are way more comfortable.
But they are also expensive
So I am wondering what other people's experiences have been with the Vionic/Orthaheel brand long term. Do they hold up? Do they ever go on major sale or clearance? I was able to catch a pair of tennis shoes and a pair of sandals on Amazon for a good price, but I will need winter shoes for the fall if I want to make the switch complete.
Is buying the inserts and just using those as good as wearing the shoes?

My daughter started wearing them last fall becase her orthopedic specialist recommended an orthotic insert. We could get sneakers and fit the insert, but not nice, stylish shoes. She wears a size 5. The vionic has some nice styles with the orthotic built in. We found lower prices at Amazon and Footwear, etc online. So far, they have held up with frequent wear and she finds them very comfortable.

To be honest, I haven't found that the shoes wear really well or stay nice very long. I've only had the casual summer shoes, so it hasn't made much of a difference, as I can still wear them. They're really comfortable, and l still think they're worth it.
I have found the inserts to be way better than even the custom orthotics made by my podiatrist,
A our brand to consider it the earth shoe by Kalso, with the negative heel, I've found them very comfortable with my plantar fasciitis as well.

Thanks for this input. I have not had any trouble with my shoes wearing out, but I have read that comment in some of the on line reviews.
I will check out Footwear and Kalso.
I just wish I could shake the plantar fasciitis. I am sick of doing stretches and all that. Does it ever go away ??

I'm so sorry! I had it for about a year, and it has largely gone away, for which I am immensely grateful. In my case it was largely connected with weight gain, and being able to lose 20 lbs (through no virtue of my own -- it was the main silver lining of a really stressful season) helped clear it up. It is nice to be able to walk again.

Sally- did you stop walking when you had it? I have tried everything except stopping exercising completely. I love to walk, and I don't really think it feels any better on the days I don't walk.
However, I have had a couple of people tell me not to do any type of exercise until it goes away, and then it will go away. Hmm......

I walked a lot less when I had it. The doctor didn't tell me not to -- in fact, he was encouraging me to lose weight to see if that would clear it up. And actually, I felt better when I was moving. It was the worst when I sat for long periods of time and then got up.

I should say -- I walked less because it HURT! Not because anyone told me not to. :)

Interesting- I don't feel like it hurts any worse when I walk, and, like you said, it might even be worse when I am not as active.
Did you see a podiatrist or your regular doctor?
I am wondering if a podiatrist would be helpful at this point...

Just my regular doctor. I would have seen a podiatrist had it gotten any worse. But I also have a bunion that I'm putting off thinking about (on the other foot) for as long as I can . . . I didn't want to get into *that* with a podiatrist!

And although it probably really didn't hurt any more when I walked than when I didn't, my my awareness of the pain made me not want to be on my feet -- even when I knew I'd feel better if I got moving!
