Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I used to watch commercials for "Restless Leg Syndrome" and think it was a scam or something. But! Now I have it! I don't know where it comes from or why I got it but for the last couple of months I've been dealing with it. I remember having it for a while when I was pregnant too, but I thought it was pregnancy related.

Does anyone know anything about this, and especially, does anyone know how to get rid of it?

I think I've heard from some friends that have dealt with it that increasing magnesium will help.

I've also heard it was a potassium deficiency. Eat lots of bananas.

ok! I can do magnesium and potassium easily! Thanks!
I find this interesting because my ds has always had night time leg pain. A naturopathic doctor told us he needs more magnesium. It went away when we gave him supplements, but I never thought of it as "restless leg syndrome". Makes sense though!

Iron deficiency can also cause RLS. I've had it (RLS) for almost 17 years. Unfortunately the only thing that worked for me was a high dose of gabapentin.

When I was pregnant, I found that rubbing icyhot on my legs and then wrapping them quite tightly with ace bandages would help (to the point where I could at least sleep). Pressure also helps, if DH sits on my legs I get some relief.

Fwiw, I have heard that you absorb magnesium more readily through the skin than by taking a supplement. I have been trying to remember to use magnesium oil after I shower. It does burn a bit for a short while, but I have had much less trouble with pregnancy insomnia than in past pregnancies.

I found this blog post about magnesium deficiency helpful. I realized that it could be the cause of some of my other symptoms and not just the insomnia.
