Has anyone experienced something like this / what does it sound like to you?

After each baby the last 3 pregs. I tend to have a period, then skip one or two, then either menstruate again or be expecting, and the one time we had a miscarriage when I was expecting after a cycle then skipping a cycle and ovulating, like this. Well, 12 days ago I started a period, it was quite heavy(not drastically so, though), very painful(like when I had the miscarriage before), and had large chunks of uterine lining, almost looked even like placenta(?), coming out. Since then I had maybe one day without bleeding, maybe 2(can't remember). Now I'm bleeding like a period again. Would you think it was maybe just another period, catching up due to the lack thereof for one or 2 months without cycling? If anyone has had a miscarriage and it didn't completely clear-out on it's own, how do you know? What would be the signs? I know this COULD be normal, it's just not typically normal for me(although I don't really have a "normal", getting different progressively after each new preg.). I don't have an ob Dr. anymore. Mine moved out of state right after my 6 wk. checkup this last time, so that's a factor for me, too.

Any thoughts/advice are much appreciated!

Watch for fever and unusual (bad!) odor those are typically the signs if you don't have a complete miscarriage, continuing to bleed I think may also be one, I'd have to look it up though.

Now what do you mean after a pregnancy you have a period and then skip a couple of months? Are you talking about 8 weeks after the baby is born or 8 months? And are you charting so that you know if you're ovulating or are you just bleeding?

As far as the current bleeding, are you doing anything to help it stop? taking vitamins? arnica? cayenne? anything of that nature to help? I know that one of the things as you get older (and what older is, is different for every woman) and hormones start acting up is that you can bleed longer periods of time and/or heavier amounts. So there's also the red raspberry, chaste berry type of herbs that might help with hormones.

Well, the last couple kiddos, it's been 4-5 mos. after baby, have a period, miss one or two, then have another. This time it was one at 4 1/2 months, skip 2 months, have another, skip 2 more months, then have another period quite heavy and very painful, with quite large pieces of uterine lining or something(?), that is unusual for me. No fever or smell right now(I had thought this may be the things to look for , too, as well heavy bleeding). The current bleeding is not too heavy, will just keep my eye on it.

I do not chart, never have as of yet, and don't foresee learning to this year at least(though I do foresee learning sometime0, with the huge amount of time planning and building a new house and helping with the business require, along with kiddos and hubby needing some of me, too in the midst of it.

No, I'm not doing anything yet to help the bleeding stop, as I'm wondering if it's just the "normal" to expect this time between pregs. since I didn't have a couple of cycles, maybe my body's trying to catch up, or something? I don't can count on 2 hands the number of cycles I've had since wee have been married, and that makes it kinda hard to remember what has become the new "norm" for my body, esp. with how much *life* in both ways (living and babies) happens in between. When one only has a couple of cycles ever couple or few years it gets hard to remember what has happened in the past.

It can be normal. Periods do change, where there can be what appears large pieces of tissues, or clots. It may be completely normal. Even with cramping, it may be a change. I would watch, if it doesn't ease up in the next day or so, I'd be checking in with the doctor, not worth the risk of infection.

Ok, so... you don't have to do any major stuff to chart and know a bit more about what's happening.. just the taking your temp when you first wake up.. that's the sign that will tell you if you're ovulating or not.

Before 6 months post partum it's highly likely that you'll get a "warning" period.. a session of bleeding before you ovulate.. that doesn't mean that you then start ovulating regularly but that first session is very likely to be anovulatory. And breakthrough bleeding can be either heavy or light.. and again.. you're not ovulating but the lining is starting to build up until it reaches the point where it starts shedding whether or not you ovulated.. and it just depends on your hormones how fast that may happen.

So really it sounds like it is completely normal for a very unstable hormonal period of time.

Now whether this last one was just that and perhaps getting more clotting to look like it's a miscarriage or in actual fact a miscarriage would be really hard to tell.. maybe you might still have enough hormones for a home pregnancy test to show positive but not likely..

I can say that when my cycles have restarted I do occasionally get a rougher cycle with more cramping... and charting showing it's not a miscarriage but all that means is that it could be either and you may never know.

Also if your hormones are getting a bit more wacky after a pregnancy things can feel worse for a time.

So all that to say.. yes it could be normal or it could be a miscarriage and watch the bleeding and perhaps start looking for a new ob. You can think of it as an opportunity to feel out a new one before you get pregnant again.
