Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the past 2 weeks, dd-6, Kimmy, has been choking and gagging on food.   She takes a little, tiny bite and then says it starts going down her throat before she is ready to swallow it.?.?.

At it's worst, she will be choking until she gags and is able to spit out her mouthful of food.

She is drinking just fine.

She is also now very nervous about eating...which probably makes things worse.

Tonight, for instance, she took a total of 5 bites of dinner, ate a little pudding for dessert, but stopped because she said she was full. (She will eat no bread at all)

Has anyone been through anything like this? Or does anyone have any ideas?

Could it be reflux?

There's also a condition where the throat constricts when you are eating...dd's dance teacher has it, and she says it gets worse when she thinks about it during a meal. I don't know the name of this condition, unfortunately, but perhaps other members do.

No personal experience, but a friend just asked me about her daughter. She is 5 and just started something similar. Chews and chews but refuses to swallow - says she can't - she has no idea what is going on. I'll see if they have had any progress in the past few days.

This is exactly what Kimmy does. She chews for a long time, but then seems to panic when she feels the food start to go down her throat.

Do any of these symptoms sound like a fit? The esophageal spasms might be it.
