So, I've done lots of reading, praying, researching, and talking since my last posts here. This might be TMI, but I'm having a breakthrough moment. I just ovulated, so I'm about two weeks away from my cycle starting and I am so angry I can spit fire! I've been paying closer attention to my cycle and emotions, and most of my emotions occur in last half of the cycle (post-ovulation).

So, talk to me. I don't know much about the hormones, so what is on the upswing and what's on the down swing during this time?

progesterone is going up..

I think I've had a friend mention that magnesium has helped with feeling angry from hormones.

Oh! and sometimes a chocolate craving is also caused by low magnesium.

Lara, you don't really give details, but I have PMDD. Spitting fire is an understatement when it happens to me. I don't just get mad....it's beyond that. I don't just get the blues....it's more than that. It all goes away once my cycle starts. Then comes back (crazy moody) once I ovulate. Now that I know what's going on I can track it.

Maybe too much info because it might not be what you're talking about.

Hmm, I need to check into that some more because this is me. Total loss of control for two weeks then back to normal once the cycle starts. And not what I consider "normal" PMS. Seems that it all started once I hit 40!    Is it treatable?

No, this isn't within the range of normal PMS.
I'd liken it to female version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

My doctor sat down with me and together we looked online for information about PMDD. I was prescribed medication that helped TREMENDOUSLY. I only needed to take it the two weeks before my cycle started.

However, I quit taking the medication because I was concerned about becoming pregnant while on medication. Without the medication it returned. It's unbearable when I've had too much caffeine (soda) and I have to stay clear of alcohol because both will later aggrevate the PMDD to a point of either rages of anger (nothing makes me happy & griping continuously about the tiniest thing)or crying bouts. I lean hard to anger, but have shocked myself with depression like crying. It's all shocking though because IT'S NOT THE REAL ME.

Any way, again, maybe too much information. I wish I would have known what was going on YEARS ago.

Whether or not what you're going through is PMDD, I pray you're able to find relief.

I think a lot of our hormone problems can be attributed to too much caffeine and sugar! And "sugar" also can include too many carbs.

Yes, I have spitting fire anger also for the 2nd half of my cycle when my diet is poor. Lack of sleep => wanting caffeine => triggers choco/sugar cravings => crazy woman mood => repeat cycle. That's an oversimplification of things, obviously.

Lara, so many of your posts go together - it sounds like you're really getting ready to make some big changes. I think I made a couple of recommendations to you in previous posts, I don't remember all the specifics anymore. I will say a quick prayer for you right now before I forget that the Lord will continue to lead you to some answers!

I feel like I'm on the verge of finally understanding, accepting, and charting a course of action! It seems that each component I've researched and talked through is finally settling into the 'big picture'. They all fit together and I've needed to address them separately before I could figure out where to place them in my life puzzle. It's an interesting feeling, being on the edge of discovery. This has been an incredible journey so far (scary at times).

Today, reading this page had me in tears. YES! YES! I was screaming at the computer screen. This is me, this is my life - crazy as heck one week and then normal for several more. Intense food cravings and secretive eating followed by normal weeks of healthy eating. Cyclical ups and downs that I'm just now beginning to understand. Plus, they are becoming more predictable now that my youngest has weaned.

So, I'm now armed with a chart and will begin the process of tracking my life for several months. This just 'feels right', so hopefully I'm on the right path.

Thank you for suggesting PMDD!!!!
