I am almost 36 so this might not be where I need to post this, but I need advice. The last few months, my PMS has been awful. I really cannot control my emotions at all. My periods used to also be exactly 30 days apart. Now it ranges from 25-35days, but is still usually regular. Are these early symptoms of menopause? Should I talk to my Dr? Are there some non -medicinal ways to deal with this. I just feel completely out of control of my emotions and it scares me. Thanks in advance for your advice.

First, find a Naprotechnology doctor, if you can. http://www.fertilitycare.org/
They can help you figure out what's going on. I had similar symptoms when I hit about that age. (Probably around 38 or so). My Napro doctor prescribed hormone supplementation that has worked wonders. Definitely pursue this. It is worth it to get relief and regain balance.
Also, I've heard good reviews about Dr. Lee's Book What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre-Menopause. I haven't read it, but they recommend several natural remedies.
I'm sure others will chime in with remedies, natural and otherwise, as well.
God Bless,
Anita

This sounds so very familiar to what one if my dearest friends was experiencing (though, at the time, she was perhaps a bit closer to 40). After not having success with a medical doctor (and a specialist at that), she found a Naturopath that took a much more thorough wholistic approach to her overall well-being. I can't give you specifics on her course of action (even if she did elaborate, it was two years ago and I don't remember). I know that she did do some hormone therapy...
Anyway, her experience was wonderful, she regained her sense of balance and has maintained so ever since.

...hm. reading through what I've written, I've given you absolutely no sound advice whatsoever... I could summarize my post as "I knew this girl with the same problem. She saw a Naturopath, but I don't know what they did or how she was treated, but now she's all better, good luck!".
... I know, very helpful

I would probably start for myself with taking Red Raspberry Leaf.. tea is fine but you can get it in capsules (maybe in a tincture) I find the caps or tincture to be the easiest to use and therefore more likely to use them. It naturally helps to normalize hormones and is safe for pregnancy.
Another good resource is Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon which will address all of these issues nutritionally.
Third if you're not still taking good prenatal vitamins you might want to consider doing so. A woman's multi vitamin would work as well but they may not have as much as a prenatal and with little ones and potentially still recovering stores and such of vitamins you may still want to take the higher level.
Oh and you'll want to chart your cycles (like for NFP) because where your cycle is short will make a difference.. like are you ovulating early but still having a sufficient luteal phase or is it that you're starting to have a luteal phase defect and your cycle is starting before you're getting to 12 or so days.

Hmm, I didn't realize my issue might be age-related. I'm almost 39, and just had an unbelievable PMS round (it was too sudden and intense to be anything else)--and then no AF. I've also had weird cycles.
The chiro I see who also does herbal medicine recommended a chaste tree supplement. I think I need to get more serious about taking it. FWIW, she did mention that it can take quite a while for hormones to re-adjust after a long period of being pg. and nursing. I see that our two youngest are the same age.

I was having the same problems, worsening PMS, shortening of cycles. (I know you said yours can be short, or long.) I had gone down to about 22-24 days, and started getting "PMS-y" even before I ovulated. So I had about 7 good days and then maybe 15-18 terrible ones.
I went to a Naturopath and she tested my hormone levels using saliva samples over a month's time. I had way too much estrogen, and some of it was actually turning into testosterone (hello rage and anger and short attention span) and this is a growing problem in our current environmental state where there are so many chemicals out there, in the air and our food supply, that mimic estrogens.
I forget exactly what she had me take, and obviously I wouldn't want to steer you down the wrong path! So please be careful, do your research, see a professional. I'm fairly certain the herbal supplement she had me take which helped my body process the estrogen was called False Unicorn. I was taking a few other things too. I stopped all supplements when I conceived my 4th child, never started them again, and did develop some of the same problems again. But now I'm pregnant again so I'll look into hormonal balancing some other time.
