Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We will be leaving for 600 mile car ride later this week. My 4 year old tends to get very queasy.

I'd really rather not have her in a medicated stupor for the ride.

I've read about ginger remedies. Does anyone have a reccomendation on one that would work for a 4 year old?

How about the wrist bands? Do they really work?

Thanks.

the wrist bands depend on pressure points.. so they probably won't work on a 4 yr old.

You might try the dramamine.. it doesn't cause a "medicated stupor" in everyone.. my kids will usually take a short nap and then be pretty normal for the rest of the time.. and the medication works much longer than the nap lasts.

There are homeopathic remedies.. I think hyland's has one and those do work unless the road is really twisty.

WHP sells a homeopathic remedy that might help. It is on sale right now.

A couple thoughts...no rememdies, however.

First if she gets chronically car sick, you might want to have her eyes tested. Vision problems might cause her to have motion sickness, as she may have problems focusing at higher speeds.

Second, does she sit really low in the car? Is she unable to see out a window? When I was a child (pre-car seat days!) I used to get horribly car sick, until I grew tall enough to see out the window.

Third, if I looked at books while I was riding, that was a sure-fire ticket to sickness. (Once I got glasses, this went away.)

My parents did give me liquid dramamine, which I recall helped some.

Happy travels!

Sending up some prayers to St. Christopher.

My oldest daughter suffers from motion sickness. I give her Bonine which doesn't induce sleepiness at all.
