The doctor just called with the results from the endoscopy. Both girls have celiac disease. I now have to make an appt. with a diet specialist about how to proceed.
I have now had about 6 weeks to prepare for today, so most of the grieving is over... I hope.
I just keep thinking that Helena has enough to deal with with diabetes, now this too???
This will be some Lent!

Oh, Stephanie! I am sorry to hear this news.... yet hopeful the girls will be feeling great on their new diet. There are so many gluten-free products out there these days.
The news is hard. The adjustment is hard. But over time I pray it will get easier for you and the girls.

My dad has celiac disease. It was a difficult adjustment, but after a few months, it was easy for him to know what he could and couldn't have. There are so many more gluten free products now than what there used to be and a lot of them are available in your regular grocery store. Also, waiters and chefs at restaurants are aware of the disease and can make sure that you are getting the right entrees, etc. Some restaurants offer gluten free menus or options (Chili's, Outback...the chocolate thunder from down under is gluten free, Carraba's).
I know this is a difficult diagnosis to get. I know it is going to affect the rest of your family. Please know that your family is in my prayers. If you PM me your email address, I can have my dad email you with the best brands for bread mix, desserts, frozen dinners, etc. God bless.

Kristin Anne, thank you so much, but I first have to get to know the german companies and products. I know a family here who is being very helpful in this regard.
Tomorrow morning I have an appt. with the dietician who will teach me all the do's and don'ts and ins and outs of the whole thing...
I went shopping this afternoon and found different products that we will try out starting Friday. Friday is our starting day, so today I bought the girls jelly donuts to feast on. They are very traditional Karnival food in Germany. I have the feeling I am grieving more about the food restrictions than they are  I need to be careful not to spoil them in other areas...

It is very difficult for Mom when a child can no longer eat a food the child likes, i have been there. It is usually easier on the child because they are feeling better without the food.
Not sure if ou can get it in Germany,but Tinyada pasta is gluten free and super yummy. Also, garbonzo bean flour makes great cookies, just do not lick the mixer (tastes like metal)
