Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The kids all chipped in and got each other a Wii Fit for Christmas. I'm very excited as it appears to be just the thing for me. I haven't done any planned exercise in YEARS (you know, other than the running after toddlers and doing everything for everyone ) and I'm finding the Wii VERY motivating.

I want to exercise in the morning as by the afternoon/late day I'm always tired and scattered (or busy).

I was curious how others manage exercise with family life in the morning - do you do it? Every day? When and who is with the kids (if anyone). What is the rest of the family doing?

There is no way I can beat my early riser up, as she is known to make a 5AM appearance quite often. She may be willing to watch me though. I have no babies or little toddlers    so this may be easier than I think.

I still want to get breakfast on the table and stuff though.

What works at your house?

That's fantastic you are motivated to exercise Amy!

How about aiming for so many mornings a week, to start? At the gym I used to belong too, I was told to come by 2 - 3 times a week, minimum 30 minutes each time. That was attainable for me

The Wii Fit was a good idea!

I run three mornings a week while my husband is watching the kids:

Tuesdays and Thursdays: I wake up at 5:15 and run on the treadmill in the garage from 5:30-6:20. My husband takes baby duty during that time (baby wakes up at 5am pretty much every day). I shower by 6:30, then put the baby on my back in the Ergo and do my morning chores (making breakfast, etc.) so hubby can get ready for work and leave by 6:50. My other three children are up at this time, but they stay in their bedrooms until I come get them, which is around 6:45 or 7 every morning. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, my husband runs and I have baby duty in the mornings, so we trade off.

Saturdays: I leave at around 7:15 (depending on sunlight) and usually run for about two hours. I look forward to my long run all week.

You can do it, Amy! It is totally worth waking up early or rearranging your schedule or doing whatever you need to do to get exercise in. I feel SO much better on the days I run.

I usually exercise every morning. Well, I plan for every morning and get to it most mornings. I have found it is the only way I can get exercise in, as once the day starts, I'm going with kid care and stuff, until bedtime. I have also found that planning for it every day, I feel better if something happens and I have to miss--there is always tomorrow
My kids sleep in so I have taken advantage of that. Daddy gets home later and likes some family time. So they go to bed later than most kids their ages. I am up by 7 and after taking care of the dog, am doing my video, exercises, or walking on the treadmill. I only have about 30-40 minutes of exercise time. I also get a little more time most Saturday mornings, if the kids don't have sports, I go for a big walk outside with the dog and the family stays home and makes pancakes-I LOVE Saturdays
I set out my clothes the night before so I can just get dressed and get going. It makes for a busy start to the day but the day goes so much better if mom gets her workout.
And my early riser will sometimes join me doing my exercise videos or will watch a Clifford video while I finish.
When you first make the switch to am exercise it is hard. Give yourself about 2 weeks and keep dragging yourself out of bed. Before you know it your will be awake and ready to go!!
I hope you can work it out!

I go to my local gym three times a week or so for about 1.5 hours. My two boys (ages 2 and 3) play in their child care during that time and really love it. I was orginally reluctant to give up our mornings at home for exercize but I've learned that if I've worked out I have more energy in the afternoon to do our usual morning activities.
