I'm 24 weeks pregnant right now and feel wiped alot of the time. My diet is reasonable but far from perfect. I am sleeping 8 or 9 hours at night and laying down for 1 hour during the day. I also have a 5, 3, 1 year old at home. Its our first year homeschooling and although we do take it easy, I do need to do something with the kids. I'm finding that I'm eating a lot of sugar and moderate caffiene just to keep me going But I know these things aren't helpful! What can I do to make the best of this? I have rarely felt great in any of my pregnacies but I've got a long way left to go and I need some ideas to make the next few months manageable. Diet? Vitamins? Prayers? What do you think?   Thanks!

here's a good thread with info on vitamins.. this topic does come up periodically so a search could give you tons of info without having to wait for people to post

I know my recommendations for vitamins are on that thread.

so good prenatals.. be sure you're getting enough water.. being dehydrated can make you feel more tired.

Also try and get outside and get in some exercise.. something like taking the kids for a walk while you can get outside still.. or just going out in the sun for a bit when there's sun and putting on fun music and dancing around the living room with the kids when it's icky out.

Have you been tested for anemia? I always get even more anemic at about that point in my pregnancy. I know I need more iron when I'm falling asleep at the dinner table

God Bless,

Anita

I was in the same boat during my last pregnancy. Changes I made:
Fresh fruit and vegetables instead of sugar, but I still let myself have one treat every day after dinner

When I took my multivitamin every day I could tell the difference!

Keep very hydrated. Fill up a container and keep it in the fridge to keep track of how much you drink. When I am hydrated I notice my lightheadedness goes away

get fresh air every day, no matter how cold it is. Even if just for a fee minutes in the snow! Exercise too- just a walk around the block

I forgot to mention- when I am pregnant I have realized that I need at least ten solid hours of sleep. Hard with kids, I know... But I would not rest very long during the day So that I could get everything done in time to get to bed at a decent hour. I found that if I was sleeping a lot during the night I felt better than if I was sleeping 8 hrs at night plus a nap during the day. Just a thought- everyone is different!

God bless

Thanks for the vitamin thread Jodie! I've ordered some new ones - its hard to get them here in Canada but I think I've figured it out. I do typically have low iron around this time but I've been taking my floridix so I thought that should be under control. Thanks for all your suggestions. It feels good to be thinking of coping ideas!

Same here (if that's even an option for you!). Also like Suzette said, water and exercise help me as well.

Praying for energy for you, Marie.

I feel better this pregnancy than all my previous because I am eating tons of veggies (via my 660 curries cookbook)
at least this is what I think.

At around 7 months, this becomes KEY for me! I have a list of things to do to keep me awake, yet off my feet, in the afternoon so I don't fall asleep.....otherwise, I sleep HORRIBLE at night and am SO TIRED all the time.

That's funny! I've been experimenting with sleep this pregnancy too. With my last 2 pregnancies I napped with the current baby for 2 hours in the afternoon and felt horrible the rest of the day. This time round, I'm laying flat for a time (long enough to say a rosary) and then I get up. That's it. And I am sleeping better at night. I should plan some other awake but off my feet activities so I'm not running the rest of the day too. Thanks again for all the thoughts!

And I'm totally trying with the veggies, but boy do I have a tough time doing a good diet when I'm pregnant! I'd love to know how you get them in everyday!

Marie,

Have you heard of Juice Plus? It is an easy way to get in those extra fruits and veggies.

My midwife and pediatrician recommended this to us years ago, and we have taken it ever since.

You can check out their clinical research.

It is just fruits and vegetables--no added vitamins--and is a perfect addition to prenatals according to Dr. Sears.

PM me if you would like more info. We really love this product--and I distribute it as well.

I've recently been taking barley green and wheat grass powder and have been finding it helps with sugar cravings.
