Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have experience with the chemo drug methotrexate? I am now on week 5 of taking it for my rheumatiod arthritis. I sure haven't been feeling very well,(stomach upset, diarrhea, muscle and bone pain, weakness) but they are trying to get my RA in remission.
Of course, the RA makes it difficult to walk anyway, but lately I have such weakness that it makes walking even MORE difficult.
Just looking for anyone who may have used this drug and the side effects they experienced....
Thanks...
This is one of the most aggressive treatments they can use for RA, but the drs. feel it was needed at this time....

Joann,

I don't have experience with this...but my MIl has RA and has taken Celebrex successfully for many years. Did your doctors discuss any alternatives with you?

She takes Celebrex each week and has liver tests every 6 weeks - so far they are all fine, and she's taken this drug for quite a long time. (She says eating oatmeal every morning helps keep her systems healthy, and I believe her.)

My reading om methotrexate is that rest and physical therapy are also indicated. Also, diarrhea is an indicator of problems and, according to the National Institutes of Health, should be reported to your doctor immediately (and the methotrexate should be stopped).

I am not trying to scare you, but to encourage you to be in very close contact with your doctors as this treatment progresses. Methotrexate is a Big Serious Drug, as you know - please check with your doctors on Monday about the side effects you're experiencing, to make sure everything's on track.

I am praying (have been, will continue...) and will add prayers for your medical team.
