Maybe this isn't a good topic to bring up (if you are pregnant do not look ).

The recent labor thread made me curious. How long was your longest labor?
WIth my first, I started on a Saturday with contractions and had him on....Monday . It was around 32 hours from the start to the c-section finish. I made it about 24 hours unmedicated, but that was my limit.

If you are pregnant and reading this, you are going to have a 2 hour painless delivery, so don't be alarmed....

Us women love to swap birth stories, Don't we? My longest out of 6 was about 12 hours. But my body has never actually gone into labor, so my labors are augmented with pitocin :(

About 6 hours with dd. (I went from 0 to 10 cm with emergency-C ds, my firstborn, in about half that time. )

My first and longest was 14 hours.

And I agree, there better not be any ladies in their late pregnancy terms reading this thread

oh well you ladies don't scare me none.. but then my longest labor was about 37 hrs.. of course the first 35 hrs or so was so mild and slow that except for the fact that I kept dilating I wouldn't have even been sure I was really in labor.. I got checked early on because that was my flip floppy baby and I wanted to know asap if we were dealing with a vertex or breech delivery

She was vertex.. but I had this real slow lazy labor but she did eventually show up

Had another one that was probably technically 30 hrs or so.. but I don't think of it quite like that.. it was summer and I started contractions in the evening when the temps started to cool down.. those sorta went away (slowed, eased up, not full stop really but close) came back some in the morning.. slowed way down during the heat of the day.. then picked up into real labor once evening temps started again.

Also had one that was about 4 hrs.. but went from normal progression with me expecting at least 2 more hours.. to having the baby in 20 minutes.. literally from the time I started feeling like labor was getting serious until she was born was no more than 20-30 minutes..

not real sure that either of those was terribly great though there was the positive of simply getting through labor sooner with the short one.. otherwise it was rather intense.

Though my labor with my first lasted about 27 hours from first ctx to birth, I'd consider my longest longest with my 7th. A week of prodromal labor, with the midwives coming and going all week until he was finally born after 12 hours of hard labor. Then my 5th, my labor was only 9 hours total, but 4 hours of that was transition. She was posterior and 10 pounds. I did all I physically could do to get her to turn, and after 4 hours at 8-9 cms, I felt her turn and she was born in one push.

My 10th came in just under 2 hours. I am a tad concerned that anything longer than that this time around will seem like an eternity! LOL!

My 6th and most recent was my longest, 12 hours. It seemed like an eternity!

My longest was number 3, our Mary! She was soooooooo worth it though!

Labour started at 2am, with Cx that woke me, and then contractions just wouldn't get regular until 2pm, I had her at 5:30pm.

All the rest since have been much faster. My Midwife said that there's often something with the third baby. I don't know if that's true though. Perhaps she was just humoring me?

My longest was my third, about 8.5 hours, much of it excruciating back labor. Although she is by far my easiest child.

For those pregnant women wanting nice short labor stories, my first and last were:
#1 - 2.5 hours

#5 - about an hour of mild contractions, then maybe 40 minutes of real labor after they broke my water at hospital

You can pick one of those

First was induced at 42 weeks: 24 hours of cervix-ripening in the hospital before finally starting Pitocin, then 19 hours of real labor.

With my second, I had prodromal labor from Monday to Friday, when the contractions finally kicked into high gear, then about 10 hours of labor (augmented with Pitocin).

My most recent was about 18 hours of labor, but I was only at the hospital for the last 4, so it seemed the shortest.

My last child (#3) was my longest. I started late Saturday night and had off and on labor until Monday afternoon. Consistent labor took over and starting increasing in intensity around 5 PM. He was born around 7 pm (at home in water) after 3 pushes. He was rotating himself all day Sunday and Monday, that's why I had intense bursts of off/on labor. I guess about 45 hours total, but not with consistent intense pains.

My first was 8 hours after being induced early (don't get me started). My second was 9 hours start to finish with about 2 hours of increasing intensity and then three pushes and done (at home in water as well).

I have no idea what to expect this time. I'm 35-1/2 weeks, just dropped yesterday and have had daily contractions for about a week. Nothing painful, but lots of practicing. I guess the old uterus needs to tone up for this labor.

I love hearing how differently each baby enters our world!

My first was my longest - 39 hours - from the beginning of contractions to birth.....14 hours of "Active Labor."

And, with baby #5 I FINALLY got my "dream-labor" (everything is relative, of course ) with labor starting with BROKEN WATER!!!!! (my first).   Things moved so quickly after that....only 1 hour 25 minutes of Active Labor!!!! (10 hours from beginning contractions to birth)

Longest was my son, who was also the smallest at 8.8 lbs, and it lasted about 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Funny thing - he was VERY active during my pregnancy. DH had nicknamed him Jackie Chan while he was in there. I went into labor right in the middle of watching a Jackie Chan movie. (I didn't watch them often or anything, it just happened to be on TV at the time.)

My first was my longest...26 hours from first contractions (that I only recognized after the fact) to birth. I was shopping for bottles at 10 pm on Thursday, right before the store closed, and was contracting in line but it just felt like a back ache. Went to bed and every 20 minutes asked my husband to rub my back because my "back ache" kept coming back. :) He's the one who figured out I was in labor. My son was born at midnight on Saturday morning; back labor the whole time.

My shortest was my third. Had pregnancy induced kidney stone. My midwife's partner OB was going to induce on Monday so my midwife came to my house on Sunday after church and broke my water at about 1:30 pm. I called her at 6 pm because I was still not contracting. I was afraid of being induced (irrational fear that I no longer have) so I was crying to her about not wanting to go in the morning. During our phone call I had several contractions. :) My midwife is an angel. She left her son and husband at the store and came straight to my house and caught my son at 6:29.

Fun times!
I always love reading these. They never seem to get old.

I'm not scared .

All three of my births were ~30hours, and yes, they started with contractions every 5 minutes. I have never really understood the 'oh, the first few hours you only have a few mild contractions' comments.

BUT, on the bright side, I *never* have practice contractions, brachton hicks (sp?) etc. When it starts, it just starts. (And now hoping I haven't jinxed myself ).

My longest was my first -- 43.5 hours. However, I am convinced that if I hadn't had to worry about transportation, I'd have progressed faster. (We didn't have a car until my oldest was 1.5 years old, and that was only by a gift of my dad's old car.) In my circumstances, it would have been better to let me wander around the hospital even if I wasn't ready to be admitted.

In Christ,
