I am thinking it is time to get my daughter evaluated and treated for allergies. What I am pondering is the route to take, conventional- with prick tests and allergy shots for an extended period, or alternative treatments like NAET or AAT. Conventional treatment would be covered by insurance and so it would seem to be cheaper. But it doesn't offer a cure, does it? Just some relief? On the other hand, alternative treatments would not be covered and could end up costing a small fortune. But I hear it actually cures allergies.
Anyone care to share experience with either aproach?
Thanks!

the only thing I've done is for hay fever and that's taking larger doses of vit C (up to 4000mg) a day.. and in a way it's just a getting relief but it's doing it without any messing with your head feeling weird medicine stuff.

My brother (who really suffered!) went the conventional route, with many many many weeks of allergy shots. He says that it changed his life. He has been able to hike, bike, walk, garden...all things that were horribly difficult before.

I took dd in for allergy testing in December and it has changed our lives
I went with a goal. To document if she truly had peanut and egg allergies and to resolve her eczema.
She had skin testing--and survived . We got a lot of information, some we would never have dreamed of, shellfish, tree and grass allergies. We found out a lot of the things that "affect" her and came up with a plan. It did not involve allergy shots.
To make a long story short, we made some dietary changes because all our reading led us to the fact that dairy and egg allergies are most commonly attributed to eczema. Her eczema cleared except a few stubborn spots.
Last year we had her on a steroid nose spray at this time of year for some sleep apnea and nasal stuffiness. The pedi thought it might be tree allergies. He was right. This year, despite the fact it is an awful year for trees, she is doing much better. Her poor little immune system was overloaded last year. Our diet changes are helping with everything.
We were supposed to go back in January to the allergist. He wanted to follow up on her eczema. Dh and I decided that we would not go. We got the info we needed. We made our plan, and it is working, and our new insurance would make it pretty costly to just run in and say "look how well she is doing."
It is worth a try.

My oldest had allergy tests and is allergic to so many environmental things. We don't do shots, though, just oral meds during allergy season (most of the year here). It doesn't completely clear it up for him, but I don't want him to get shots. I've really wondered about NAET too but don't know anyone who has tried it. I'd love it if someone around here had experience they could share!

Yes, that's the same with me. I went through the shots and it really has helped me. My bil and his son have gone through them and it has helped, too.
We just started our son on shots.
