Unfortunatley, I need to take antibiotics to get rid of mastits (102 + temp). I'm concerned about developing thrush, as I usually have a yeast problem after taking antibiotics. I did take some right when I can home after delivery and we've been ok, I was just wondering if anyone knew any preventative measures I could take to keep yeast at bay?
My bout of mastitis with my last baby cleared on its own after less than 24 hours. However, I feel MUCH worse this time and my fever isn't going away even with ibuprophen (100+).

start taking probiotics (acidophyllus) ASAP and keep taking them for 30 days AFTER you finish the antibiotics.. that way you're replacing all the good bacteria that is dying off continually and there's no where for the yeast to get a foot hold.

Well, yogurt is a given, but you could also try kefir which is more "potent" in my experience. Also, if you could find any raw, fermented foods, that would help. It isn't hard to make your own, but if you have mastitis, you probably don't feel like it. You can also buy Acidophiles to take in a capsule.

Echoing Jodie on the acidophilus/probiotics. Also, garlic!

Thank you all. This has really wiped me out. I'll have my DH stop on his way home. Luckily, my parents came by and took the older four to their house for me, so hopefully after some rest and antibiotics I'll start feeling better.

Bethany,
Just adding another vote for acidophilus, or, if you can get it, bifidophilus. Once, while dealing with a different sort of infection a naturopathic doctor told me to take the acidophilis (or bifi...) at night and in the morning, 3 capsuls each time. The doctor said the the package usually recommends 1 or 2 a day, but that's really to maintain an already healthy system. You might need more than that to clear up an infection. I'm adding a disclaimer because, while I can't imagine that this would harm the baby, I'm not 100% sure. Does anyone know about that?

I can't imagine that it's harmful Becky.. I just rememebered.. Dr Sears recommends it's use in infants as well as older children and adults.
