Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A friend of mine will be having minor surgery and staying with us as she recovers. Her main concern is the after effects of the anesthesia.

Can anyone recommend healthy ideas for post-surgery?

ETA: I forgot to mention that I don't have a working oven at the moment. I would have to use my crockpot or stovetop. Thanks!

I would ask if the hospital where she is having the surgery can help you contact a dietician for ideas. i would think easy to digest meals first, then "stronger" as she can tolerate them.

It will also depend on the type of surgery.. surgery on something related to the digestive system may have a stricter diet than something that the only concern is the recovery from anethesia for instance.

Something light for sure at first if there isn't any higher restrictions.. and small amounts more frequently can be easier on you too. Even without anything else.. you've been without food for over 12 hrs usually and a big meal of anything can make you sick.

I think I'll have the usual B.R.A.T. items as well as broth on hand. Should I be sure to stock anything else?

I think it would be pretty rare that you'd need any special diet after the first day or two.
