A question for those who have had miscarriages and conceived again afterwards. Well you know how the doctor says you shouldn't conceive until you've had two cycles after the miscarriage? This is a premature question, but one I want to look into now before I return to fertility.

I was wondering how many of you have conceived again before having 2 cycles? And if the pregnancies have then gone fine?

With how my hormones have been, I don't know that NFP would be a reliable option, or one that we could "get right" on such short notice. So I was wondering how "dangerous" is it to conceive again after miscarriage with only having had one cycle(once it does return)?

A lot of it depends on the miscarriage. I concieved immediately.. no cycle in between.. after my early (6weeks) miscarriage and carried to term.

But both the doc and my midwife (who I'd trust not to just "feed me the line") said after the later miscarriage and d&c to definately wait through those 2-3 cycles. The d&c leaves the lining of the uterus very thin.. and therefore unable to sustain a pregnancy.. it takes several cycles for it to regain normalacy.

My feeling is that as long as you didn't have a d&c it's more about the idea that pregnancy is a hardship and so you have to have time to recover from being pregnant. Which goes back to the male body being the perfect specimen and anything out of the norm for that is treated as "disease".. so pregnancy is otu of the norm and a bad thing for you. Versus the thought process that says a woman is designed to have babies and getting pregnant is a sign of health not disease.

Take good care of yourself.. start now on prenatal vitamins.. and most of the worry that you'd be depriving yourself somehow would be negated in my opinion.

Does anyone know if there is a difference between this effect with a vacuum D&C as opposed to a curretage D&C? Thank you.

We conceived the twins (and everything was fine) on my 2nd cycle after my miscarriage. I had a vacuum D&C, we lost the baby at 11 weeks.

I've conceived quickly after my early miscarriages - as soon as three weeks after natural miscarriage between 5-6 weeks, and those pregnancies were fine. My miscarriage in December was at 12 weeks, natural miscarriage, and I'm late into my first cycle past, so late actually, that I'm beginning to suspect...

My understanding is the vaccum is easier on you but both still leave a very thin uterine lining. If the lining isn't recovered you could lose the baby because implantation is compromised.

I became pregnant after only 1 cycle following a D&C. There were no problems with the pregnancy and we named her Helena!

ETA that it was an early miscarraige - 6-8 weeks.

One thing you might try is to rely on the mucous method instead of the other methods. If you don't know how to do this, you can pm me.

Thank you all for your replies! I have also been digging on the net for info on this subject and I have seen so many who said they conceieved and carried to term at or even before one cycle after D & C. I feel a lot better now!

I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks and had a D&C (non-vacuum, I think). I don't think anyone told me to wait 2 or 3 cycles before trying again, at least, not that I can remember.

I do remember trying to conceive again and being frustrated that it took 6 months before I did. I chalked it up to God's will and maybe the miscarriage since it had never taken me that long to conceive before.

I have had three d&c's.

After my second miscarriage at 8 weeks, I had a D&C and my OB told me that due to my advanced maternal age (I was 40), he thought it would be fine to just wait one cycle and then begin trying to conceive. Didn't want me to waste any of those precious months...He was a bit adamant about allowing one cycle so the uterus lining had time to thicken. It took me two cycles to conceive and we carried the baby to term--my sweet 3 year old boy!

I am still praying for you, Pilgrim.

After a 12-13 week miscarriage, no d and c, we waited the 2 cycles and did get pregnant.
A big scare around the beginning of the second trimester with a fever and bleeding but everything checked out fine until at 37 weeks our feisty little girl was born in the car on the way to the hospital! A normal delivery for sure. And a beautiful experience for dh and me- one of our best "dates."

I couldn't conceive for a few months.

I think it is true that the body may not be ready but it is certainly an individual thing. God can do anything. I have heard many Catholic docs say that there is no real NEED to use NFP or abstain to wait the traditional time period, that it is a standard medical suggestion, and that it is not true across the board, but to use your own prudence in this area. Maybe depends on age and overall health, as well as past pregnancies? Not sure.... I can see a multigravida of 40+ being understandably concerned.... .Pray, seek wise counsel, talk to hubby, and go with your intuition on it.   Trust. We don't have THAT much control ultimately.....
