Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi all,

My 2 year old has always had what looks like a red rash on her face. In fact, I noticed the other day in the baby pic at the top of the stairs that she appears to have had a rash ever since then. Anyway, lately it looks much worse. Her cheeks look "chapped" but she hasn't been outside for them to be chapped and it is a little raised looking instead of flush with her face. I have tried petroleum jelly, and I usually put cortizone cream on it once a day which seems to temporarily help, but then it gets red again within a few hours. Do any of you all have experience with this? I wondered if it is maybe caused by her drinking too much milk? (Don't know why I think there is a connection, but thought maybe there could be?) I wondered if there is something out there that would be more helpful for her? She doesn't seem to care about it, but it looks sort of odd and it is the first thing you notice about her. Lately, it looks as if it is getting worse.

I too have a ruddy look to my face and always have. (But not as pronounced as hers has become.) I had also heard that there is a make-up that can be used or a cream for women. Does anyone know the name of that? (For me, not her.)

Hi Kim!

I'm new to the forum, but your topic caught my attention. My daughter had the same thing, and eliminating dairy solved the problem.   When she was about four, we slowly introduced dairy and as long as it was small amounts, she did fine.   Today, she doesn't seem to have any problems with dairy.

It's easy enough to try to see if dairy may be the culprit - soy milk and rice based products are readily available in supermarkets or health food stores.

No idea about the make-up.

Thanks for the info. I don't know why we always seem to go overboard on the dairy around here. I will try to cut it out for a week or two and see if it solves the problem. I don't know why I thought about milk. Maybe I read something in the past and it connected something in my brain. I also saw Ruth earlier today (she is on this list since you are new to it) and she mentioned some sort of cream at the health food stores..culundrum cream or something horrible sounding like that which I will have to re-ask her about since I can't remember the name!!

Red cheeks are a often a symptom of allergy or sensitivity to something (usually food but also could be contact allergy). Milk is one of the most common allergens for young children - that's probalby where you made that connection.

I'm thinking she (Ruth) probably mentioned calendula cream which is commonly used for skin irritation/abrasion issues.

Our children get red cheeks with chapped skin usually in the winter when they play outside a lot in the cold. I use Neutrogena Handcream and it works very well. Also cod liver oil helps.

It sounds like eczema to me. My dd has a bunch of food allergies and always had red cheeks and her wrists were always chapped. I never realized that it was eczema (she had eczema elsewhere on her body, but in these 2 spots it was different). Once I cut out the offending foods her red cheeks and "chapped" wrists went away. Be careful about subbing soy milk for cow milk as for some reason many people with a cow's milk issue also have an issue with soy. It would be a good idea to keep a food journal for her so that you will be able to figure out exactly what foods are the issue. Is she nursing? If so, then you need to cut the stuff out as well. Good luck!

I have rosacea AND my allergies tend to show up in my face. If I eat chocolate everyone knows I have. It won't stop me though.

I was thinking it was an allergy. Does it itch her? My children with eczema really scratched at it.

My dd's eczema only itches her in certain places, like when she gets it on her neck and then only when it gets bad. Her eczema on her cheeks never itched her, that's why it took me so long to realize what it was. I only realized it was eczema once it was gone.
