Any suggestions for a good set of hair clippers? I officially cut my husband and sons hair. We've had cheap clippers from Target and they are on their way out. I want ones that will last.

We have a Andis Speedmaster Clippers and PivotPro trimmers set it seems to be doing pretty good.
The link is to the product, I don't know if that's the best price and I don't believe I've ever bought from that seller so I'm not recommending that particular store.

I'll have to go see what the brand is, but we just bought a set from Costco recently. We'd seen it in years past, but passed it over because it was made in China. Well, lo and behold, it is now made in the US! I'll try to remember to go check the brand. I don't cut my husband's hair, and he cuts the boys, so, I don't have a mental image to go on.

My husband has a Wahl set (I think it is this one) and he really likes it. He does his own hair and our son's. (And it's made in the US, I think, for those interested in that kind of thing!)

I have an Oster Fast Feed and a Whal Peanut. (I linked for pictures not shops to buy at)
I have each of these for about 5 and 9 years respectively and and use them to cut my boys and dh's hair.
The few tips that I have gleamed over the years are as follows:
:: It's nice to have an adjustable blade (maybe it's not called that) when you are blending the hair. It take the guard that you have on and make it a little higher. So essentially it makes your 4 guard sizes equal to 8 sizes. You can tell if a clippers has it if there is a little lever on the side.
::The peanut is really great for young children and trimming. It's small but it packs a powerful punch.
::Make sure you oil before and after every time that you use it.
I hope that helps,
Betsy

I've had a Wahl hair clipper that has last me for at least 10 years. I think they are very good, and very durable. However, I thoroughly clean and oil them faithfully after every single use.
As an interesting aside, I once figured that I could buy a new clippers EVERY time that I cut my sons' and husband's hair...and still save money over taking them to the barber!
(Of course, I would never do this... )

I have a Wahl, but I don't oil after every use.

We have a Wahl as well, that we have had since 1998 when hubby and I got married and he started to cut his own hair:)
We've never oiled it and it still works well but we do clean it thoroughly after each use.

I just wanted to mention that I just got a Wahl clipper set at Costco for $19.99. It is made in the US and comes with ten comb attachments, a couple combs, scissors, oil and brush, a cape, and a storage case. The blade is also the adjustable type that Betsy mentioned. Here's hoping my boys will be looking less stupid post-haircut

I'm glad you asked this! I have been meaning to post a question on here about hair clippers too!
I have a Wahl set ( I think it's the same one that Susan mentioned)and it worked really well the first time I used it. Then, when I tried again my husband said that it was pulling his hair rather than cutting it. This has happened a few times. I am scared to try it on the boys because my dh said it was hurting him.
What am I doing wrong?

I have a 15 year old Wahl that is finally deciding to die, but it has cut yards and yards of hair at this point.
Ryane, it might need adjusting and oiling. The directions that came with the clippers whould have had instructions on how to adjust the clippers.

We've been Wahl users from day 1 (20 years). Our first set was a gift from my parents, then we got our own, and now we're on our 3rd set. I don't oil either (lazy - )
Love the Wahl, but when we were in Italy it didn't work well with the adaptor/transformer so we bought one made for Europe -- a Panasonic with adjustable blades (or whatever those are called ) and it was VERY quiet and smooth. The quality of the plastic I think is also higher, and because of the adjustable blades the transition from level to level is also smoother.
When our Wahl dies I think I'll be looking for a US version of the Panasonic. Can't use it now because it won't work here even with adaptors/transformers.
