Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Seborrheic Dermatitis? I have been diagnosed with this, and it's on my face which has made for some humbling experiences. It basically makes my skin flake and itch (most of the time), especially around my eyes. When it was really bad, my whole face looked like it was sunburned and hurt the same way too. I have it sort of under control with a face wash and a steroid cream, but I would rather not use the cream quite so much.

Can anyone give any input? Thanks so much.

My 15 year old son has this. We use a tea tree oil exfoliating soap, as yeast overgrowth is an issue in the patches. I also make up a cream for him from lanolin, tea tree oil, grapefruit seed extract, colloidal silver, and a smidgen of cortisone cream.

It never completely goes away. I am not sure is that is because he picks at it no matter what we do.

lavender essential oil has many of the same properties as tea tree, if you just can't stand the smell of tea tree

And I don't know if it would help or not but I have used aloe for dry skin and it's wonderfully soothing. You can get aloe at the health food store that doesn't have all the "extra" stuff in it that the aloe gels sold with sunscreen do.

Dear Fuzzy

I am sorry for this - I know how tough facial dermatitis is (as you know )

I do not have SD - but in all my reading and research and visits to derms - this is what I can share

1) I think hormones do play a big part - so often it will show up during cycle times or pregnancy or postpartum

2) Stress plays a huge factor - and it is a cycle because it makes you anxious and that makes it worse. I think trying to stop worrying about it and doing breathing/exercises helps - easier said than done I know

3) Supplements - EFAs - fish oil/primrose oil/borage oil/blackcurrant oil help. Also a probiotic to restore good bacteria.

4) Shampoo - choose a good shampoo - I think with SD this can really really affect your face and eyes. Have you checke out the DHS range - we use the DHS Zinc and it is so lovely - very mild and creamy and no smell

6) Be careful of skin products - do not go trying lots and lots of things (ask me how I know - it just overloads your skin. I would get on the derms regime till you have it well under control. I personally use Cetaphil cleanser which is the only thing that has worked for me. Then use a good moisturizer - ask your derm for recommendations (and if you want trials - check with me - I have a big box full of lots of products that have not worked)- a couple that have been good for us are the DML range, the Avene range and just plain fragrance free Aveeno. Re your eyes - I have to tell you that the ONLY thing I can put around my eyes is plain Vaseline petroleum jelly - my skin reacts to anything else. Re the steroid - hopefully you will be able to move to a regime that you use it for control - eg weekends only to prevent a flare up

Other things you may want to check for is if you have developed any food allergies?

The hardest thing - sometimes there is no rhyme or reason - just a way the body reacts.

Hugs to you Fuzzy - I so so empathize.
