Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have any ideas for natural help for rheumatoid arthritis? I hate to start more meds, especially meds with such side affects of the rheumatoid meds.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for exercise that I can do? My blood pressure is "creeping up" so I would like to get moving a little more that I do but most everything hurts too much--I know swimming would be good but the Y is too far away to make that at all practical.

Thanks for any ideas you might have

Nettle.. it's supposed to help the anti-inflammatory drugs for arthritis work better I think..

And I noticed that t-tapp has a exercise program that is for people who can't do too much.. you do it sitting I think.. anyway.. you might check that out and see if it's something that might work for you.

I think potassium rich foods help blood pressure: think bananas! Actually baked potatoes are high in potassium too. Also, of course, reducing sodium intake. I do buy a lot of prepackaged food but I'm mindful of the sodium listed and also if there's potassium listed right underneath it that will help offset the sodium. I tend to buy the Lean Cuisine meals for my lunch some days and some will have 700+ mg of sodium but there might be 500 mg of potassium so those are the ones I choose. Still not the *healthiest* choice but beats a local drive-thru some days!

My sister-in-law had great success by cutting out gluten from her diet. Her RA symptoms pretty much disappeared, and now they only show up when she eats a gluten-containing food. It might be worth experimenting with- just cutting it out for a few weeks to see if you feel better?

Hugs and prayers for you, Joann!

I have had great success with willow and birch tea and I also bathe in willow alot . I also have far less pain than I used to when I cut out my caffine intake. I too wanted to use items which are natural and also free if possible . I used to pop ibuprofen all the time now I rarely need any maybe 3 times a year is all I think the willow really is working the best for me .

I second the elimination of gluten and sugar. I know it sounds mind boggling to do that, but I have. I have celiac and chronic fatigue. When I went gluten free I didn't see as much improvement because I filled in with processed gluten free foods, which is still not healthy.

There is a book Break the Viscous Cycle that explains how autoimmune diseases are all benefited by omitting grains and sugar.

It's a hard step, but it's not medicine.

Blessings!
