Awww, poor little thing. We did this before getting a prescription for Zantac. I might have notes on the dosage. He didn't like it.

I didn't have dosing notes. I did reference on a few sites, but nothing concrete except call the ped.

I'm sorry E.
I don't have any notes on Maalox...but I had good luck with gripe water. Do you have any gripe water up in the cabinets somewhere?

Found this on the Colic support boards....you'd be taking a chance, but they suggest 1/2 tsp of adult strength Maalox in the morning, 1/2 tsp. at night, and one lactation consultant recommended dosing every 4 hours as needed. Does that seem right, Jenn?
Could you give your ped. a quick call?
Wish I could pop over with the gripe water.

My pediatrician got a technical while coaching basketball this evening. The opposing coach? My son Christian. I'm just not in a hurry to call him. Wish his partner were on call...

Found this...it's a pdf file I'm linking as an html, but it has some helpful dosing information in the middle of p.2....GERD in infants
Their recommendation is this:
Quote:
You can give your infant 1 tsp of Maalox 3 times per day for 2-3 days. If it seems to help, there is a good chance that your infant has GERD. Maalox is not a long term solution. Using Maalox chronically in infants can lead to electrolyte imbalances, so don't use it for more than 72 hours without discussing this issue with our office. |

That should get you through the night...and hopefully Christian can make some sort of peace offering so you can call your ped on Monday!

He doesn't much like being outcoached by a teenager. Still, he needs his mouth washed out with soap. Humph.

I've had three with reflux. I didn't even know with the first and suffered through. My third had a severe case and we used prescription Prevacid. It was very difficult to administer. With my fourth, we used prescription Zantac. Leesburg Pharmacy is a compounding pharmacy and they mixed it with marshmallow flavoring. It went down like a charm and made for a much happier baby!
I know you're near there and it might be useful if you get a prescription. It's so hard to force medicine down an infant.

My sister's little guy suffered terribly with reflux. She found a lot of info and support here.

if you end up needing medication, I recommend asking for zantac efferdose - it's just like sprite. Much much easier to go down. Good luck, my first 3 had bad reflux.

Our peds office always recommended 2 1/2 mil before feeding. I've had 2 with major reflux. One did well on a Pepcid Rx, the other at 2 is still on Prevacid Rx. It is such a relief to all once this is under control. Sleep returns. Keep an eye out for wheezing and ear infections, as these can come with reflux. Both of mine ended up with tubes in their ears, one of them at 7 months . Will pray for you and Sarah.
