Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm wondering if anyone can help me decide if or when I should see a doctor....I've been experiencing a steady pain on the left side of my abdomen, it's constant. Doesn't matter if I move, don't move, touch it or not. There is no bleeding. I think it started yesterday morning, so it'll be 2 full days come morning should the pain still be there. If anyone has had or knows about ectopic pregnancies, should I be concerned?
TIA!

I don't have any experience with ectopic pregnancy myself. But I would think you would get a + pregnancy test.

There's also the possibility of a cyst.. or appendicitis..

really it may be a wise idea to get checked out just to head off any serious problems and to give your mind ease.

Hi, Syncletia! I've never had an ectopic pregnancy, but when I had an impacted kidney stone one of the things they checked for was for ectopic pregnancy b/c the pain can be similar. Specifically, the Dr. was looking for abdominal and/or lower back pain, dizziness, and shoulder pain; I only had the lower back pain (intense!) but he checked for ectopic pregnancy anyway as I was nursing a baby at the time and could possibly have missed the return of fertility.

With ectopic pregnancy, the pain can get worse during movement, and fainting, nausea, and other symptoms can develop. But severe pain on either the lower right or lower left side of the abdomen can indeed be an early sign of ectopic pregnancy (though it can, of course, be other less worrisome things). But if it's possible for you to be pregnant just now and the pain isn't diminishing, is getting stronger, or starts to be felt under either shoulder blade, and especially if you have any bleeding at all develop, you'd probably need to see the doctor. Even if it's not an ectopic pregnancy, you could have an ovarian cyst or some other cause for the pain that would need to be evaluated.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I had an ectopic pregnancy. The pain in my side came with spotting and the usual early pregnancy nausea and tiredness.   The pain felt like cramping -- somewhat like the "mittelschmertz" you can get during ovulation, because I could actually feel the pain in my fallopian tube area; and somewhat like menstrual cramps.

This was a "classic" presentation but I think probably there are different forms the symptoms could take. So probably best, as others say, to get it evaluated, since it could be something else that needs intervention as well.

I too hope it is nothing serious and that you feel better soon!

From what I have read you might not want to rely on a negative home pregnancy test when you have concerning possible symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy.

You need to go get checked! If it would be an ectopic you would rather deal with your own doctor than the middle of the night ER staff. Could also be an ovarian cyst, or a twisted ovary.

Praying for you that it is just something minor.

Mary
