Hi Everyone,
I know that this is not a forum of Doctors, BUT, I have been to see our regular docs at Kaiser. They have prescribed the same thing inhalers and antibiotics , which have done nothing for me. I had some x rays done 2 weeks ago because I sprained my ribs from coughing so much...I have been sick for over 2 months now and I am just plain tired of coughing and hacking everywhere I think my body is just tired of it too Does anyone have any home remedies that aleviate bronchitis. My chest hurts (my lungs) and nothing else no fever, no runny nose or sinus problems. I am trying to hold back on some of the info because what I am coughing up is not nice. I am also breastfeeding and that is the what I think has also had me like this since I can't take many meds, so my last resort is homeopathic. I have been drinkinking teas with various herbs but nothing seems to be working. My homeschooling is suffering because I am not 100% , I am resorting to enchanted learning and alot of workbooks and reading.
Sigh just wanted to get any ideas or remedies, please.

1 clove of garlic crushed into a spoonful of honey (some use apple cider vinegar but I just can't do that), 2-3x per day. Don't do it on an empty stomach!
This usually knocks out colds and respiratory junk at our house.
I am not a doctor, but my book, Prescription for Herbal Healing, recommends:
Ginseng (American or Siberian) tincture, take as labeled.
Reduces inflammation and clears bronchial passageways.
Bromelain (comes from pineapple) 250-500 mg w/1 c. water, 3x day. Thins and reduces bronchial secretions. Do not use if you are on blood thinners or take NSAIDS/aspirin.
Couch grass tea (never heard or seen this). 8 oz. 4x a day.
Fenugreek (great for breastfeeding!) capsules or tea, take as labeled. Reduces mucus. (and increases milk supply).
Lobelia 500-1,000 mg. 3x a day, for no more than 2 weeks at a time. Breaks up bronchial congestion and stops wheezing. (do not give to children, use if breastfeeding or if you use tobacco products) (This might not be so great for you since you are nursing!)
Mustard seed plasters - grind mustard seed, mix 1/4 c. (2 oz.) with just enough lukewarm water to make a thick slurry. Place between several layers of cloth, such as muslin or cheesecloth and put over chest. Leave on until your skin begins to tingle (around 5 minutes). Do not leave on longer than 15 minutes. Do not use on varicose veins or open wounds.
Also, bronchitis also is accompanied by a lot of inflammation. My husband went on an anti-inflammatory diet at one point that seemed to help him a lot.

Sorry, no remedies here, but I wouldn't put off a return to the doctor if you don't have improvement, soon.

I am very prone to bronchitis and the med that worked best for me was URL=http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail. jsp?id=BT-1054]Bronchial syrup[/URL] fromt he Vitamin Shoppe. My dr ok'd it when I was nursing a tiny baby.
Also I put ecalyptus and menthol oil on a coton ball and place it in my pillow case.
I hope you are feeling better! I am very prone to bronchial illnesses and so feel your pain.

bromelain is also an anti-inflammatory. I find it works better for me to take the bromelain in caps BUT also drink pineapple juice/eat pineapple.
Also, ginger (if you're not pregnant) combines with the bromelain so that they both work better than they would seperately. It's an anti-viral but also an anti-inflammatory. I buy a fresh ginger root, scrub it.. and the toss it in the freezer. Then grate it straight from the freezer (skin and all).. add it to a pineapple smoothie and it tastes good and you get both.
And bronchitis can take a long time to get the gunk gone.. I remember having it in college living on campus with lots of stairs.. oh ouch.. I managed by running up the stairs so I could get to the top before I started coughing. Then stand there and cough for 5 minutes before proceeding.
