Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

No experience but from what I understand it won't function correctly if it does not decend.. it needs the cooler temps of being further from the center of the body.

I had two boys with this, they noticed it shortly after birth. I was told that by age 5? ( can't remember) that they would need surgery, but with both boys by around age two the dropped down.
it is also important to check in a warm room/check more than once.
when a boy gets cold in the exam room and is undressed, they can pop back up a bit...

I think by age 10 though I'd be anxious to have something done. there can be permanent infertility issues if left alone....

That was my first thought/concern when I heard this.
However, it doesn't look like it's going to come down and it's probably will never function. Her thought process was, if it will never function would you need the surgery?

Thanks for all the input so far...

oh, got it. yeah, I think I'd go ahead with surgery. there could be cancer issues much later in life with it being tucked up too high and overheated for so long??

then again, I have had a son (Thomas) go through two hernia (inguinal) surgeries, so I'm not that squeamish/nervous about that area...

My son had this, and we had surgery to correct it at about 7 months old. The doctors told us that it had not descended in the hospital, and recommended we visit a urologist. When we went for a check up, we discovered that it "missed" where it was supposed to go in trying to descend, and went too far. The doctor said it was dangerous for older years, as far as bike riding, etc. It was a very easy surgery for him, and he has 2 VERY small scars. As far as I understood, there wasn't any concern about it not functioning. The concern was that if it DIDN'T descend, like Lisa said with the overheating, and infertility issues.
