I am a CCL NFP teacher, and I have seen zillions of charts. None compare to mine. I go anywhere from 1-18 months between ovulations. (In the last few years, it's been longer stretches more often than shorter.) In between, I will often bleed for no apparent reason for days, weeks, or even months. I am not talking spotting, I mean like a normal period, just looooonger.
So, of course the first thing I have tried is to eat better and take vitamins. It was not always this way, but in the last few years, whenever I start vitamins (I have taken Professional Prenatals and Rainbow Life Complete Prenatals) that's when I will start to bleed, and it will. not. stop. until I quit the vitamins. Lately I have been feeling like I have just been eating better, no vitamins, just healthier food... and the bleeding just started. The last time I conceived (and miscarried) was when we were on vacation and running here and there and I was off vitamins and eating sooo much junk food... Why then? Why when I was least healthy?
I have had my thyroid tested and results were normal, although I don't think they did as many tests as they could have... just the basic one. My temps used to be low... like below 97.0. But they gradually rose, and lately they have been over 98.0 consistently, even pre-ovulation.
One doctor also diagnosed me with PCOS, even though every test they did for that was negative. I was on Metformin for a while, although not as high of a dose as I could have been, and it did nothing.
Anyway, I am sure I should probably find a better doctor, get more tests, etc. I don't think our insurance will cover most of that. I am just wondering if anyone has any insight into what on earth is causing all of this? Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

Hey, I would STRONGLY reccomend that you get tested for some autoimmune disorders, which can cause prolonged/secondary/permanent infertility, as well as cause symptoms which can mimic PCOS,thyroid issues, etc.
I'd also go ahead and test for von Willebrand's - a bleeding disorder which up to 3% of women of child bearing years HAVE, but only 5% !!! of those women have been properly diagnosed.
(yep, I'm one of the fortunate 5%  )
I do the auto-immune work through Univ of Tx Galveston, and Von Willebrands is handled here locally at the bleeding disorder center.
PM me if you'd like more info. although I'd think that in your area you'd have some pretty good Docs to choose from.
Lastly, I'd also consider seeing an endocrinologist.
Praying for you. I bled for 26 days straight with my miscarriage, and that was ON medications, I can really relate to the bleeding thing. it is NO FUN.

you'd be surprised! plus, they want you on a bunch of registries while they figure out what is wrong oftentimes, and that means all sorts of tests/meds are covered.
a nasal spray I have to have cost 790.00. Even a 20% co-pay would be out of reach, but it was initially free.

No idea, just sympathy! My sister is like this--she's not yet 20, and she will have bleeding for months, literally. I'm trying to get her to see my doc, but unfortunately this is an area we didn't talk about in our family growing up, and that taboo is difficult to get around even now. FWIW we are a PCOS family, but our symptoms are all different!
I'm not any help about the insurance either, except to say maybe give them a call and find out if they'll cover a new doctor at least, and then take it from there. We were blessed to find a knowledgeable NFP doctor right off the bat. It makes a world of difference!

I second the recommendation to be tested for autoimmune disorders. I have celiac disease (caused by gluten intolerance) and had weird periods and times of infertility for several years. Periods that stopped and restarted. Extremely painful cramping. Cycles that alternated between 25 and 35 days and so on.
Testing for celiac can usually just start with a blood test for an immune response to gluten. After that, you can either try the gluten-free diet for a couple months and see if you have results or if you have a positive blood result you can choose to have an endoscopy to confirm it, but many skip straight to the diet.
Now that I have been on the gluten-free diet for over 10 months, my periods have gotten more regular and very little discomfort--shorter, etc. I hope you get the help you need. :)

Maybe try meeting with a Creighton instructor. CCL is great but not so helpful in the tougher cases. Creighton specializes in the tough cases.

I second trying to get with a Creighton doctor - it will be so much more telling and helpful no matter what you end up getting diagnosed with. I am currently learning Creighton (after using ST thru CCL) and right away they recognized some minor issues - the Creighton doctor is now seeing me and working on getting these things straightened out.

Many insurance plans cover women's health testing...they just don't cover fertility treatments themselves. (Besides, this is potentially a very debilitating condition - not necessarily "just" a fertility issue.)

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I will try going to the doctor again when dh has a break at work and will have time to stay with ds. In the meantime, I'll look into the different disorders that were mentioned. Thanks again!
