Hello Ladies!
I've read about detox off and on and have found various points of view, leaving me mostly confused.
How do you know when detoxification is necessary?
Do you have to have medical supervision?
What's the safest, gentlest way to detox, and without risk of complications/health imbalances?
Oh and just FYI, it's not for me (I'm pregnant and would be afraid of effects on the baby) but for dh whose eczema is getting bad again. I'm ready to have him try something new!
Thanks!

Hi Stef , I am off to the naturopath this am because , get this my ecsema on my foot got so badly infected .
For me this is the second time and I worry about the felsh eating bacteria .As well I know it is allergy stress related . I feel toxic inside . My allergies are more sensative the last two yrs as well as asthma which I did not have trouble with for over 18 yrs.
I can honestly say it is my own doing .I was a smoker for yrs . Quitting while pregnant nursing but most often starting again . I was not a heavy smoker but the amount of junk built up in my body I feel is ozzing out .Tabacco is actually a medicine when used properly and not laced with tons of toxic chemicals .
I get hives on my head as well .
I am usually pretty good at doing my own herbal remedies etc. bathing in juniper and salt water all that stuff .
My best effort for my ecsema is to leave it alone clean it with alchol let it dry .any oil irritates it something awful . The base in cortesone creams makes me itch almost immedietly .
The one thing that has helped is a small ice pack of all thing to numb the itch .
However I am now on antibiotics to kill the infection . My foot was swollen and all red . This also is due to age I think .My ecsema never ever got infected as a child or young adult. My immune system feels shot .
I've heard some other people say after quitting smoking they felt awful and I guess I am one of them . Although I have not had a cold in 2 yrs
I began to pop omega 3 tablets lately as I read they are good for ecsema . I also am going to get vitD as I know the sun and dry weather help my ecsema . Humidity and dampness are horrid for mine . This yr has been mostly rain and cold temps.
I'll let you know how this naturopath goes .dh insurance covers it up to $500 per person so I am going to take full advantage of his benifits for a change .
Much Love , Rox

ps. stef as far as detox goes . I do fasting and it actually is one of the only times I feel great .
I do bread and water usually . My fav fast is the trinity fast . 3 days . I do first day green tea , water bread . I do this along with God the Father . The next day just water and bread along with Jesus my teacher friend and brother . The next day I do white tea bread along with the holy spirit by wonderful guide .
A dear friend gave me a book on biblical fasting , it has the disciple fast , the Ellijah fast etc.
after doing a few of those I came up with the Trinity fast .
I have yet to do a no water fast I do not think I could handle it yet . maybe in a few yrs.

Stef, there was an article recently in the Wash Post about a detox diet. I think it is called the Martha's Vineyard detox or something like that. I don't know a lot about detoxing, I just know I am too weak to do one.

My dh does the lemonade fast to kick off lent. It is hard, but he always feels so good coming off. I've always been pregnant or nursing, so idk personally...

Well the naturopath honestly I knew more then he did that didn't work
He was so young or am I so old
Anyway in the end he gave me a sheet of paper to go over and he said to me " I know you said you pray , but have you ever heard of this , meditation " I just about cracked up right then and there but know he is trying really hard to be a good naturopath .
I told him yes I do about 1 1/2 hrs each day and I've taught meditation / contemplation
what did he think prayer is anyway ?
Then he gave me a sheet with food that is good for you to eat . No I'm not kidding dh laughed when he read it all it has is a heading like fruits then a list of good fruits to eat then into meats etc..
Anyway I know I need to de-stress and and am calling my midwife who knows a native elder who may give me some more advanced advice .
Have you ever heard of this ion foot bath thing Stef ?
It is supposed to really detox . All the massage places here are starting to do this treatment .
Let us know if you try anything and how it works out please

Stef - you know I could write a book about eczema. I am not convinced about detox. Eczema is caused by an over-active immune system - so is an auto-immune disease. I think that a day's fast never does anyone harm - but I would be careful with herbs etc - I ended up being allergic to all that stuff. I think that eating simply and not spicy - and then doing stress-management things like massage or yoga might be more effective (not that I have tried - no time )

Sigh... yes, I am, Anne, thanks for asking. Just not actively right now as we're so hectic. But any info you can send my way is highly appreciated and will be read, eventually anyway. It's on my "project list" :D ... maybe while dh is out of the country for the umpteenth time, and yeah, eating food that's bad for him :(

I have done a raw food diet detox before...I lost 10 lbs in a week and felt AMAZING! My skin was completely clear of any breakouts, my hair was shiny, I had tons of energy and I wasn't hungry at all.
I know that I should eat that way all the time but I just couldn't stick with it. I am thinking of trying it again, since I have been feeling so sluggish.
The book I read about it was called Living on Live Food by Alissa Cohen. She has a website with a message board... Raw Food Website. One word of warning...the people who post there are nice BUT are hard-core Vegan Raw Foodist. They believe that raw food and only raw food is the way to go. But they do have a lost of info on juice fasting, green smoothies, and general raw food diet that is really helpful.
