I finally got around to weeding my flowers and somehow ended up with poison ivy on my arm. It is driving me nuts! Any safe remedies out there? We are going camping tomorrow and one of my 3 year olds also has a small spot. So, I need a remedy without oder that is small child safe.

Thanks

Zanfel!!!!!!!

You can pick it up at Walgreens, CVS - whatever you've got down the road. It is expensive - about $30 a tube, but it works!!! My 18 month old got into a patch of poison ivy at a road stop one time, and I was desperate. It worked instantly. It is safe to use on the little people because you rub it on, leave it on for just a few minutes and then wash it off. You don't have to wear the pink cream around for days!

I ended up having to leave town before getting anything to use for the poison ivy. AND while camping I ended up in poison ivy again! UG!

So, my solution was to call the doc and get the cortizone shot, and now I feel much better.

The girls' spots never developed into much.

Oh, and I also bought some pure Lye soap which is supposed to work - I found it while camping.

Thanks again for the advice.

Angi,

I feel for you. I always have to end up getting the shots too. Next time you encounter the posion ivy, try washing right away with COLD water and soap. I used to run in and shower off or wash with warm water, and always ended up with the stuff. I have come into contact with it several times lately and for some reason thought to wash with cold water and I have not gotten it since! I am the type of person too who can get it just touching my husband's clothes after HE has worked in it and I have been in the house the whole time. (oils I suppose) Anyway, hope you feel better soon!

another precaution.. don't let your skin get dry.. the skin will more rapidly absorb the oils if it's dry.. so putting on lotion before you might come in contact will give you more time to get it washed off.

I heard recently that if you come into contact with and are washing off that you should use cold water. The cold water will keep your pores from opening up and letting more on the oil into your skin.

I've personally had success with going for a swim and getting it to clear up....I think the chlorine must dry it out somehow.

It seems that this is my current cross to bear. The laundry has caused even more lesions on me. I am now using Ivy Dry, which is the only thing available is our small town. I really hope it works.
