Has anyone here ever had spider veins treated? After my last pregnancy, my one leg is covered with spider veins. The other one has them, but they are not bad yet. Right now it's more of a cosmetic issue, but they do get sore and I don't want to wait until I have a lot of pain! I keep thinking, I'm not going to worry about this, but I've been seeing them a lot at the pool with the kids.
The shots don't look pleasing to me. I see ads for creams and pills....not sure if they work and don't want to take a pill. Any other useful ideas out there?

I would look at vitamins and herbs that improve vein health/strength/resilency.. not sure off-hand what those would be though..

There were some helpful hints on treating varicose veins in this thread.
Are spider veins considered varicose veins? Or are they something different?
I have them all over too (varicose? spider? I don't know...) , and my legs are really sore and tired without my compression hose. People I've talked to say to give it another month or so (3 months post-partum) and then see a vascular surgeon for an opinion if the pain doesn't subside by then.
My right leg is worse than the left. Personally, I don't care what they look like as I hardly ever show my legs. But, we live in a mild climate (read: NOT HOT). But, it's the achiness and fatigue that would make me do something about them.

Spider veins are different from varicose. They don't bulge and don't cause as much pain. They can be the beginning of varicose. That's why when they started to hurt, I became concerned.

These supplements may help - this is probably NOT the best price, but it had a picture so you would know what the brand looks like.
After I having the DVT, I have pain in my veins, and my one leg aches often... But these help quite a bit - supplements with Butcher's Broom and Horse Chestnut are really good for veins.

Me too! My right leg is covered with spider/vericose veins but my left is nearly normal. I first had them during my first pregnancy but they totally went away by about 6 months post partum, however when I got pregnant again they just popped out immediately and stayed for good. I'm curious to see if anyone shares their experiences having them treated. Do you have to wait until you're past your childbearing years?

Deep Vein Thrombosis -- a deep vein blood clot. They are considered rare, but sometimes during pregnancy or postpartum you can develop one due to your body dealing with the bleeding you do during delivery (I had no other risk factors for one - they can do genetic testing if you get one to be sure - there are some genetic conditions that can make you prone to them.) However, when I first went to the hospital with pain in my leg, they missed the clot and sent me home saying it was muscle pain. A few days later, I couldn't even stand. They found it that time. (the big concern is a piece breaking off and going to your lungs = pulmonary embolism). Due to the lag time in finding it, my veins are kind of scarred on the insides. Since then, my leg veins have been kinda not so great.

I have a friend whose doc would not recommend the surgery if she are planning on having more children as they will recur.

For spider veins, they can do sclerotherapy which is a tiny needle inserted in that injects a saline type solution that collapses the vein. It is like a pin prick. Slightly painful. They can also do laser but from what I understand that it is not so good. Either way it can be expensive and is not covered by most insurances as it is cosmetic. With age and more pregnancies, you will usually get more. Varicose veins - the big bulging ropelike things - those can be surgically removed.
I had some varicose veins removed surgically before my last pregnancy - I have more now from this most recent pregnancy. The surgery was pretty minor though with minimal down time afterwards.
I don't know too much about the supplements - but I am going to do some reading! Thanks.
