Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I think our 3 yo may have swimmer's ear or some other form of ear infection. The doctor's office is not open yet to consult with him.

His left ear hurts and is in severe pain if touched. No pus is coming out of the ear. The ear is not red or hot to the touch. He did seem earlier to be "warm," as if he might have a fever but doesn't now.

What do you do for swimmer's ear and/or other ear infections?

Most of what I'm reading online says antibiotics and no water near/in the ear (baths, pools, etc.). I prefer to avoid antibiotics in general but do use them as needed. My 3 yo does not want to skip the pool for a day, much less a week or two, and not having A/C, it would make things harder on him re: keeping cool.

Thanks in advance!

I have a little guy that gets swimmers ear if I'm not proactive. He's seen the doctor for it before, and she said it is a form of eczema in the ear canal. It is vital to keep it clean and dry. I gently swap with a Q-tip after each bath/shower/swim. I use a homeopathic ear drop from Simalison for kids when it bothers him. I sometimes add a few drops of breastmilk before the Simalison, as it is a 'natural' antibiotic. Hope he feels better soon!

Kelly, I'm sorry your little one is in pain! This thread has some good ideas about ear infections.

I would also recommend, if you think it's swimmer's ear, to use the OTC swimmer's ear medications. He may also need some ear plugs to help keep the water out in the pool.

HTH!

This is what a friend, who is an Ear,Nose, and Throat specialist told me to do:make a solution of half peroxide and half white vinegar.Put a few drops in the ear(have the child lie down)and let the solution just stay in the ear for a coule of min.Do this 2-3/per day.If there is no improvement in about 1wk,take him to a Dr.
I used this for myself and it works very well.Poor little guy,I hope he gets better.
