Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I usually stay away from this forum because medical issues trigger my anxiety disorder so I am probably going to have my husband read any responses just in case they might scare me. I am a big baby, I know.

OK. My almost 4 year old woke up yesterday and was complaining of a stiff neck saying that he couldn't turn his head. He cried some of the time, but nt all of the time and I was able to see that he could turn it in some ways.

Of course, my head screamed MENINGITIS so I called the doc. No fever. No other symptoms. Probably a strained muscle maybe from sleeping funny or playing. Today it is a little better. Still no fever, no other symptoms and it seems to only hurt when he moves his head to the right or up.

Has this ever happened to one of your kiddos and aside from warm baths, is there anything else I can do to help him?

I'm sure that is all it is. I've had a child that strained a leg muscle when he was two. He limped after climbling up a very tall slide. I worried it might be something serious and even bought him really expensive shoes, it went on for some time but that was all it was. . .a sore strained muscle from climbing. He climbed a tall slide that he had never done before. . .repeatedly. I know necks and legs aren't really the same but I'm just trying to make you feel better. I've had an older kid with stiff neck issues.

If he were my child I would give him children's motrin and see how that goes. Motrin should cut out a lot of pain and reduce some inflammation and thus help him to move. If my child seemed better with motrin I would assume a strained muscle and keep an eye on him. I'm not telling you to give motrin unless you think its okay.

Kids are so worrisome. . . I bet he will be fine!

yep.. a stiff neck is like an inflamed muscle.. if you don't care for OTC stuff.. pineapple works to reduce swelling.. and so will a cold compress (I found for myself cold works way better with a stiff neck than heat)

Also menegitis is usually "chin to chest" that is the problem movement.

Arnica Montana is a really good homeopathic remedy for injured muscles. We use it all the time around here, everyone from the baby on up. My toddler has pulled her shoulder muscle several times because she will fall down to indicate that she doesn't want to do something. If we are holding her hand and she plops down, it tends to hurt her arm. Please keep in mind that she is a 30 pound 20mo, so when she plops down it is with force! Anyway, I hope this helps and I hope your baby feels better soon!

Blessings,
Betsie
