I'm not sure where to post this....
Do any of you use cloth sanitary napkins... the kind you wash. I have a friend who does, and she really likes them however, she has a light flow.
I have a heavy monthly flow, and I wonder if these would work for me? If any one has any experience or info about using cloth pads with a heavy flow I would greatly appreciate it.

It was a mess for me. They are a lot of work. They do add to your laundry and I am laundry challenged already. I also have a heavy flow, so they may have contributed to the laundry issues.

Have you looked into some of the other alternatives? I seem to have really good luck with ecological bfing and have had one period in the past 4.5 years, so I can't speak personally, but I have friends who love the Diva cup. You could wear that with a lightweight cloth pad, wash the pad with your underwear, and still avoid all the chemicals and such associated with disposable pads and tampons.

I've had good luck with natural sea sponges, using a cloth back up on heavy days. These are the ones I use.
If you use cloth diapers, I don't think it's that big of an adjustment to using cloth feminine products. I rinse the cloth out and keep in a covered bucket (an empty OxiClean bucket) and then wash with either diapers or undies.
There are also the moon cup and diva cup options -- which I've never personally used, but have heard good things about.

The Diva Cup has worked for me in the past, when I've had a lighter flow, but since having Mark, my flow is crazy heavy, and it's just not working. Cloth pads work great on days that I just stay home, but for going out, I have to do much more...

I tried one of the cups, can't remember the name it was 4-5 years ago, and it made me want to throw up. I tried it for a few months but it never got better. Someone suggested the one I tried was latex and maybe that bothered me. I don't know.
I have a super heavy flow, sorry TMI, and try not to leave the house during that time. So that colored my experience.
I think the idea of cloth pads or a diva cup is wonderful, I wish I could use them, but I know my limitations, so I make other choices.

I use Luna Pads and I really love them. But I've only had a couple periods since buying them because of bfing so I don't have a lot to go on. They are quite comfortably and well-made. I don't find them any extra work because I just rinse them and throw them in the diaper bag. I used to have a very heavy flow but don't seem to since having babies. I did use them post-partum with no problem. You might use them just at home or on lighter days.

An alternative is Seventh Generation - disposable but chlorine and bleach free.

I've tried the cloth ones when my ds was really small. It was okay.
I don't know how I'd manage the laundry issues with it now--both for me and the men in my house!  If you have a separate bathroom from your kids, it could be done...

I don't use them myself but I know some women who do use them and are very happy with them. There are ones made for heavier flows.. for post partum use etc.
And from what I understand they just use a small covered bucket or such type container.. so it's no problem for anyone regardless of how many bathrooms there are.

I do...I have to. I can't do the internal types, and I am allergic to disposable pads...I break out in a terrible rash  ...which as you can imagine, is really horrible.
So, yes, I use cloth pads.
I am laundry challenged too, but as I said, I have no choice.
I also have a really, really heavy flow, for at least 3-4 days, and I have it for no less than 7 days.
I have tried MANY kinds....I have found a brand I really like now.
During my heaviest times, sometimes - especially if I have to go somewhere - I will wear a super-thin disposable pad and put a cloth pad over it.
I have Luna Pads, they are my least favorite. I also have some okay ones by TLC Pads. My favorite are by New Moon Pads.

I use cloth pads and I love them. I don't do an extra load but throw them in with bath towels or the underwear load on hot water with tea tree oil and my regular laundry soap. I have found that to work really well. I can't use disposable or really anything internal as it sets off terrible burning and itching (ugh!). I haven't tried the diva cup yet, because I balk at the cost (I know in the long run it works to my advantage, but the initial cost is really off-putting to me for some reason!). HTH!

I also use them and have for the last 2 years.
I made my own using old cloth dipes for the inners, recycled felted wool sweater for the backing and organic velour for the top. The wool is what protects your clothes.
I have a very small flip top garbage can under my sink that I store them in before washing. I wash them with my towel load.
I didn't like the Diva cup at all. It never felt quite right.

Great conversation... one of this weeks jobs (for many months running  ) is to make some pads. Kudos for the felted wool option for the bottom of the pad- I used to use felted wool for my babies soaker covers. I haven't tried to Diva cup but have friends that rave about it- my flow is just so heavy for so long it would make me a little nervous!!
