Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday I took my 2 mo. newborn for his check-up and amongst the list of vaccines, he wanted to give him an oral rotavirus vaccine that can only be administered between 12/13 weeks and 6 mo in 3 doses.

I have never heard of this -- so said no until I could find out more information.

Anyone know about this vaccine?

I am waiting to hear responses! I just heard about this new vaccine (to be added to the LONG list that is already there), but I has no idea it was an oral vaccine, with 3 doses! Goodness.

My understanding is that it is primarily for little ones that are exposed to rotavirus in daycare. It is new and we don't know the long term effects, and my baby was home with me, so I declined.

I'm watching this thread closely.

My first reaction was that it sounded like something for the daycare crowd.

Well, my ds was not a daycare baby (although we went to several play groups), and he came down with this on his first birthday! Fortunately, I knew what was going on and we were able to treat it at home ... he must have had a mild case.

My friends' daughter, his playmate, was hospitalized! She was not a daycare child either, but had lots of exposure to other children. Just be careful in these months of closed doors and windows!

Our ped offered this to my second son. She said if he's not in daycare then it's not really necessary. We passed on it.
