If you had an optimum pregnancy diet, what would it look like?

What kind of supplements would you be taking...teas...etc?

What kinds of things would you take to support total health including your hormones and such? What should my pantry look like?

I am walking vigorously every day for 40 min to an hour (depending on how the weather is)

I want soo badly to be in the best shape for labor as possible...I was in the process of losing weight when I got pregnant and I am still 50 lbs from my goal...darn. ( I found out that I had the weight in the first place because my body has a hard time with wheat digestion...I cut that out and started exercising more and had great results!)

I don't want to carry anything extra into labor if I can help it. I do make everything home made and I am willing to eat or drink or give up eating or drinking anything that is necessary to meet this goal of great pregnancy health. I am in training for a very special marathon and a very special little one is counting on me...sooo

Advice?

My optimum pregnancy diet is ice cream and pizza.

I never have the will power to 'eat right' during pregnancy, as I know I will continue to gain weight and it is discouraging to me. So, I'd love to see everyone's responses.

The brewer diet I think is supposed to be really good.. that's the high protein one.. supposed to help prevent problems. (blueribbonbaby.com I think)

drinking tons and tons of water

rainbow light vitamins are good.. the "system" that's 6 pills a day (check at vitacost.com)

additional calcium

red raspberry leaf (tea or capsule or tincture)

I would also throw out the scale.. eat right and don't worry if you gain during pregnancy.. some will gain no matter what and others won't. The important thing is the eating right. And then after the pregnancy worry about getting it off.. often when you've eaten right.. any weight you do gain comes off easily.

No help here, Donna Marie. I usually search for the spiciest foods when I'm hungry or chocolate. Chocolate gets me through anything.

During my first pregnancy, I ate a lot of fresh fruits. I still gained 50 pounds, but the baby had most of that weight (30 pounds total came off with the baby). That's as healthy as I get. If I ever get pregnant again (please, God!), I'm going to aim for healthier since it's so much harder to lose weight at this age.

Not much advice, but many prayers offered.

I gain 43 pounds with each pregnancy, so I am expecting to do the same this time. My first ob/gyn wanted me to gain 50 because of my height. I ate ice cream (I don't usually eat it) for one month and put on 11 pounds...he told me to cut out the ice cream. However, I have found that no matter what I eat, I put on about 11 pounds in my fifth or sixth month of pregnancy. I tend to eat healthy foods because that is how I was raised. We eat fruits, vegetables, brown rice, chicken, salad, etc. I do need to exercise more.

I am thinking of trying the diabetic diet, I have heard it is by far the most healthy diet. I have never gained alot of weight before in a pregnancy, so this 19 #s I have so quickly gained is freaking me a little (ALOT!!)

Hmm...I could probably have a list a mile long with dietary changes I would like to make.

Three things I would like to incorporate more are:

1) Avocados---They are so good for you...good fats and lots of vitamins

2) Smoothies with coconut oil, flax, berries

3) Vegetable juices made with our juicer.

Supplements...I have never been keen on taking the Rx prenatals. Mostly I just want to keep up with my Omega 3's and my probiotics.

Also, if your body is still healing from wheat intolerance, I would take digestive enzymes (basically enzymes from fruit sources that help our your digestive system) and probiotics.

Keep up the great work with exercising! If you can find a good prenatal pilates DVD or class at the gym, I would do that along with walking. It really strenghtens your back and ab muscles (in a safe way). It also keeps the legs toned.
