Hello,
I used to be so good about making time to exercise--It was never, "if" I would exercise that day, it was, "when?" The decision was made.
My first trimester threw all of that out the window. I was sick, tired...you know the drill. Also, I played a lot of tennis before I got pregnant. I had to stop earlier this time because every time I would twist, I would get these sharp pains in my sides. Blah... Blah...
Anyway, I really want to fit exercise back into my schedule but here are my issues:
1. 19 month old flat out refuses to stay in a nursery at a gym. I've tried breaking him in and the sweet ladies at the YMCA tried really hard but I was inevitably interrupted every day. It wasn't worth dragging 5 kids to the Y just to work out for 10-15 minutes.
2. My husband travels frequently so I can't get into an evening routine with the gym...if he's out of town for 3 nights that week, then there goes my schedule.
3. I would love to work out with videos at home before the kids wake up but if I even put one pinky toe on the floor to get up before them, they are up and ready to go! Our DVD player is downstairs and they sleep with their doors open, so if I do manage to get out of my door, the sound of me jumping around downstairs, always wakes them.
I don't mean to whine but I'm just trying to give you an idea of my issues here.
I really need to exercise. It makes a huge difference in my energy and stress level when I'm pregnant.
Any suggestions? How do you guys fit it in between homeschooling, laundry, dinner, husband, etc.?

Worse case, 6 kids on the yoga mat with me. It's ugly, but gets something done. Sometimes, a video bribe so I can hit the exercise bike for a while while the little guys are napping. My husband would give up a lot to let me exercise, so Sat and Sun I go swim or run (waddle) or something. I try to not take longer than an hour, and come back showered, so it leaves a small imprint in our day. Good luck!

I just got back into the exercise groove a couple months ago. I have a 16-month-old and a 19-month old. Here's how it looks:
1. Every non-rainy day, I strap both of them into the double stroller after lunch and take a walk. We walk either 1.5 miles or 3 miles (I have two routes I choose from), depending on my energy level for the day.
2. Later in the afternoon, I put them down for a quiet time in their rooms. (They gave up this second nap a long time ago, but they still seem to need some "down time," so I put them in their cribs in the afternoon for about a half hour or 45 minutes to play, lie down, whatever.) I then do a short cardio workout, stretch, and take a shower. (On rainy days, this is my only workout, so I use the whole 45 minutes and really push it.)
3. On Saturdays, I usually go out for a run on my own while my husband watches the kids. It takes less than an hour to run a few miles and take a quick shower.
I'm in the market for a jogging stroller right now; then I'll be turning our "walk" into a "run." For now, this works really well with our schedule.

I was going to suggest walking, if you can get out of the house with a stroller. It's hard if you've got more kids than you have stroller seats and no olders who can watch them, but if you CAN get out, walking is simple, can be done at a moment's notice, can be done with littles in a stroller, costs nothing, and gives you time to think, say a rosary, or whatever, as you go.
Because we have this handy teenager, my husband and I have been able to walk almost daily since January -- his teaching schedule this term is such that he can take a chunk of time to come home during the day. We walk for about an hour, a minimum of 3 times a week. If you can only walk 15-30 minutes, even that can make a difference in your fitness level. I also try to run errands on foot when I can (we live close to a Walgreen's and a Dollar General, so if I can get something at one of those two places, I will walk to get it, with or without attending children). Even a short walk with children beats no exercise at all, even though getting everyone ready and out the door can be more hassle than it seems to be worth.
Anyway, walking! I hate to exercise formally, but I could walk forever, and it makes me feel so good!

I feel your pain. We used to belong to a gym and the kids liked the childcare. I worked out 3 - 4 times/week. It was great. I've gradually worked my way down to nothing. I have to do something. I find walking with the kids stressful. There's a gym close to us and I'm thinking about joining that for a while. At least until I have the new baby.

I am trying to get back into my old routine of exercising in the am--before the kids wake up. Dd is the one who notices I am doing something w/o her and wakes up. I have decided that I can put her in front of the TV(PBS) or a video(usually Clifford)and try to finish what I was doing. I try not to feel guilty.
I am not a TV or video person but I do it for this reason--mostly
