Hello Ladies,
I am at 12 weeks in my pregnancy, and CANNOT quench my thirst this week. Water is the hardest for me to drink right now, and I just can't swallow it without gagging. Do you have any suggestions? Everything has a different taste to me right now, so I am so hesitant to try something unless I am sure it will help.
TIA!

I have heard, but have not tried it, that a dash of apple cider vinegar in water helps with morning sickness and is more thirst quenching. You can add honey or maple syrup and it tastes pretty much like apple juice but the acid helps balance your pH and curb nausea. Also lemon or lime juice in water. My last pregnancy I took a chlorophyll supplement to help with iron levels. It's this REALLY dark green liquid but it comes mint flavored. I would add a splash of that to water and have minty water that also had good minerals and such.

I did loads of fresh lemon juice or lime juice in ice water.
the apple cider vinegar sounds like "switchell" that refreshing drink that I read about in some book ("Little House") that they would drink on really hot days?

the only things that really works for me in early pregnancy if I'm nauseous are gatorade (or simliar) or water with lemon and some salt (not enough to make it salty tasting but more like making a saline solution for your eyes or nose)..

With this last pregnancy, gatorade was about all I could drink when I was at the stage you are. I had to switch flavors several times because what was good one day may not have been the next.

First, congratulations Fuzzy!
I am in a similar situation over here, I too cannot handle water and I am super thirsty. I also cannot have any sugar, so gatorade type drinks are out. So far I drink fresh squeezed lemon juice in luke warm water (cold water is the worst) and blueberry extract concentrate in a little water is doable. Also have you tries EmergenC, I can keep down the raspberry flavored.
Good luck, you have my prayers!

I don't know what your budget is like but coconut water is supposed to be even better than Gatorade for quenching thirst. It's cost-prohibitive, here, so I haven't tried it. It's kind of a fad drink right now so it might be at your grocery store and I think it would almost definitely be at a Whole Foods or something like that.
Here's a link so you know what I'm talking about.

This is what I did during my last pregnancy when it was important that I stay well hydrated, but I couldn't look at another glass of plain water.

These may not be the healthiest suggestions, and one of them isn't even a drink, but I've had similar problems and they're what I've been doing. What is it about water of all things to be difficult to tolerate?
7up is the big-name caffeine free soda with the least concerning ingredient list that I have found -- still has HFCS but no sodium benzoate, "artificial" flavors, etc. I'm not drinking this most days anymore but there were a few days that it helped a lot.
And I've been having quite a few of Edy's frozen fruit bars (http://www.edys.com/brand/fruitbars/flavorlisting.asp?b=136 ). They do have added sugar but I find lingering over an 80-calorie bar helps at least equally with the sensation of thirst and feels like it is better for my blood sugar than drinking a 110-calorie 8-oz. glass of orange juice. I've had the lemonade and strawberry flavors; the lemonade seems to help most with nausea but the strawberry at least has 1 gram of fiber per bar so I switch back and forth.

well, I jsut HAD to look up the recipe for switchel:
Haymakers Switchel to absolutely quench any thirst:
1 C Brown Sugar
1/2 ts ground ginger
1/2 C Molasses
3/4 C Apple Cider Vinegar
2 Qt Water
without the Brown Sugar, Icould see how the ingredients would be strengthening during a pregnancy as well...The Iron in Molasses for example, ginger for queasy tummy, etc.
anyway, interesting to find the recipe.

I am not a consistent tea lover ( I like it, but don't always think of it), but when pregnant, I do find that hot teas (and hot beverages in general, but tea means less sugar than hot chocolate or cider and less caffeine than coffee) go down more easily than cold.
Well, with my first, I lived off of nestle. I could seriously live of chocolate milk when pregnant, but I wouldn't recommend it! I gained SO much weight with my first pregnancy
