I'm keeping a food journal to help me figure out why and when I crash, but I wonder, what do you do when you crash? My first inclination is to pass out or to eat a variety of foods in the hopes that something will help or to be sick. None seems to be a great approach. Any suggestions? Is there a way to shorten the recovery time (today I was out of it for about 2 hours)?

ugh Rachel!! I can't speak about hypoglycemia per se (that's JennGM's expertise)... but when I'm pregnant I do find that the gestational diabetes diet helps me stay energized WHEN I'm disciplined enough to do it AND I have those foods in stock.
I have an egg, toast and milk for breakfast
Cheese and apple, milk for snack
Turkey sandwich (or the like!) for lunch with fruit, milk
Peanut butter graham crackers with milk for snack
Salad, meat, veggie and starch for dinner
Bowl of cereal for bedtime
In between drinks lots of water. I find that the protein combined with a complex carb seems to be stabilizing.

Oh and I skipped my first answer part!!
When I'm crashing I do the apple (for instant sugar) with peanut butter. That works for me.

I try to eat a little protein every few hours to prevent crashes, either peanut butter, a hardboiled egg, a little turkey or cheese, etc. But if I feel one coming on, I usually go for orange juice for quick pickup and then follow it with some protein so it doesn't cycle right back up and then down again. But no matter what i eat, I do find it takes about an hour to feel "normal" again.

Now that I am thinking about it, I'm wondering if it was actually a spike. I had a snack that was heavy on white sugar and the protein I picked to balance it wasn't protein-y enough, I think. How do you deal with that (beyond, "Don't do it!" )?
Thanks for the help with the crashes though because I have those fairly frequently.

Oh... that's a different story!!
When I'm pregnant, fear of a big baby works!! Although my doctor recently told me that I passed my sugar test with "flying colors" and another lady told me that it's just as easy to push out a 12 pound baby as 8 lb as long as head and shoulders are same sized!!
Threw my fear factor right out the window.
No wonder I weigh at least 2 pounds more than when Luke was born... and I still have oh maybe 6 weeks to go (I don't count weeks!!)
