Oh help, please! I just found out through an endoscopy that I have a hiatel hernia (I'm sure I spelled that wrong ) and coffee is bothering me. Does anyone know of a brand that is low in acid? Hannah still doesn't sleep through the night and I could really use some caffeine!

You can try cold-brewing. I have a cold-brewer and use it from time to time but since I no longer suffer from hyper-acidity (and don't drink coffee as often) I can't really tell if there's a difference.

You might try switching from coffee to a black tea, like Earl Grey or English or Irish Breakfast.
Peace.

Thanks for the link, Stef. That looks very interesting. I may have to try some of that coffee.
Lara, I've been drinking black tea, but I really miss the taste of coffee. So I guess it's not just the caffeine! Isn't that pathetic?!

Organic is a lot less acidic than non-organic. You might see if that helps or not.

Another idea: a coffee-chicory blend. And yes, organic and fair-trade, for some reason, tastes less acidic to me. But I wouldn't know about actual acid content -- it could be psychological

I know what you mean about missing the flavor of coffee. There is nothing like a really good cinnamon roll with a cup of delicious coffee. Alas, alas...
I concur on the coffee/chicory blend. It is very good. It seems to me there is an instant chicory that a good friend always serves when I am there. She does a half milk (warmed), half chicory blend with just a hint of sugar and cinnamon...YUM!
However, unfortunately,I generally have to listen to the dictates of my stomach and choose the tea (really not too much of a sacrifice, because I love tea as well, but it doesn't really go with the cinnamon roll!), as I know I will pay the price in the end if I drink the coffee!
There are always those "coffee-flavored" NIPS candies if you are desperate!!
Commiserating with you!

There is an herbal tea product called Teachino... I used to get it at Whole Foods. You can brew it like coffee. I enjoyed it when I was pregnant with and breast-feeding my first because of the caffeine factor, but I would bet it is less acidic as well.

At the grocery store last night I'm almost positive I saw some kind of blend by Starbucks labeled "low acid."
We've started to buy our coffee at the Starbucks store instead of the grocery store, it is actually cheaper (16 ounces for what they charge for 12 at the store), and you can get a half pound at a time and have them grind it fresh. And they have ALL the varieties.

The food co-op I used to go to had a low-acid coffee in the bulk section.

I'm looking at my can of teeccino - hazelnut. It is an herbal coffee substitute. It says that brewed with coffed it reduces acidity. I blend and brew it with organic coffee. I'm going to try teeccino vanilla next time. Hope you find a good alternative. Valerie
