My due date is 2 weeks away and last night we visited with some friends whose children had bad colds. What vitamins/herbs can I give to my children to help them fight off the cold that they were exposed too? Thank you!

elderberry is good - GSE too
I've heard good things about the "airborne" preventatives.
Zinc is also supposed to help.

Vitamin C and echinachea are always good. Raw garlic if they can stand it.

Thank you for the helpful ideas. Right now we are all taking extra Vit C and getting extra sleep. I'm also adding garlic to everything! Little do they know....

I had some herbs and I just ordered the rest of what I need to make this immune booster. It contains : Nettle Leaf, Peppermint Leaf, Echinacea Root, Echinacea Tops, Elderberries whole, and Ginseng Root.
I will use it in tinctures or tea as soon as someone has cold symptoms and maybe the week or two before Christmas to prevent another 'sick' Christmas. It shouldn't be used as maintenance.

Cayenne. Make some chili and add as much cayenne as they can stand without tears.

Oh, and if your family doesn't do tinctures or capsules, I've found some teas to be very palatable. Our grocery store sells Traditional Medicinals teas, and there is one called "Cold Care" that is Just for Kids that my kids enjoy with a good helping of honey. It contains elder flower, linden flower, chamomile flower, and peppermint leaf. For myself, I enjoy their "Lemon Echinacea Throat Coat" if I'm already feeling bad. I also used it for my son last winter when he was hit with the flu.
And for kids who have trouble w/swallowing vitamins, I mix in sodium ascorbate (vitamin C in powder form) with their juice. It tastes best w/lemonade. I got ours from Bronson Vitamins.

They are not as effective as taking the real thing. You can cut up the garlic and then swallow the pieces like a pill if you don't enjoy eating it, but it should at least be sliced if not chewed to release the benefits.
