Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone ever been so stressed, anxious, etc. that you've had difficulty swallowing, chest pressure, etc? One by one I'm eliminating physical reasons why I'm having these problems and am beginning to think it's related to anxiety.
If you would rather, you can PM me.

Thanks,

Are you sure your thyroid is in good shape. Just putting this symptom with the depression prayer request. Thyroid can be an elusive diagnosis...

Oh Suzanne, I'm so sorry. Do you have pain? My mother had this...it was related to a hiatal hernia, I believe, but it was also linked to stress. She couldn't swallow anything except liquids for a while. Stress can really inflame the esophagus and cause all sorts of wierd problems. And depression is complete stress on the body. Praying for you.

Anxiety has caused that symptom for me many times. Sometimes it gets so that I feel like I can't swallow any solid food. The muscles tighten up & the little pieces of food get stuck on the way down. Ten years ago I had x-rays & tests done and every was fine. The diagnosis was anxiety.

Hmmm, I had my thyroid tested 6 months ago, 3 months after the baby was born, and I think it was just the TSH. I hadn't thought looking into it again. But I guess it's a possibility.
For those of you who have had this problem, when you were under chronic stress and anxiety, was the swallowing problem constant or did it come and go?
I've already had an upper GI, there's no hernia, they say the esophagus looks fine. They've set me up for a gastric emptying study and an endoscopy for next week. Just wondering if we're looking in the wrong place.

Thanks for your replies, it means a lot to me!

I had a swallowing problem when I was pregnant the last 3 times. I also had problems with breathing so it interfered with my sleep ...water... food...swallowing it was all very hard. I remember it feeling like I was drowning. They could never figure out why that happened. I would like to know! I also seemed to be having problems with adrenaline just being released without my "permission" it was very weird. I couldn't be calmer or happier just before it happened for the first time. I never stop wondering why this happened. I would LOVE to have another baby...*deep sigh...

God love you!
