I'm at 11 weeks now. The past two weeks I'm getting stabbing, super sharp pains in my upper abdomen, or upper uterus areas, on the right and left sides...not my lower ab. The description for round ligament pains seems to fit, except the location. It happens when I get up, or was bending over and then stand up, or just when standing. The pain is incredible sharp, takes my breath away, and sometimes doubles me over. But it passes in about 2 minutes.

I didn't have this with my first pregnancy. It's not that I'm majorly worried, but I'm just wondering if there's a name for this.

Jenn, just FYI -
I'm getting my round ligament pains more in the middle - notlow down either, but not as high as you're describing -- but same kind of activities.

When I saw the title to your thread, Jenn, my first thought was ligament pain....

Thanks. The pain is sometimes in the middle, too, so now I feel better just knowing what to call it.

My round ligament pain was unbearable with this last one. It pulled from my belly button clear around to my side. I ended up having to wear a preg brace on the days it would "fire." If you do get worse and its r. lig. then I recommend this brace.

If it gets worse I would get it checked out, just in case. Also, I've heard that C-section scar tissue and round ligament pain can somehow unite. I forget how but I'm thinking it has something to do with adhesions. Can't remember if you had a c-section before, Jenn. I had one so that might be why mine was more toward my belly button.

Sorry if this isn't making sense here. . .I'm distracted by what I hear upstairs.

Great point...my sister and mother suggested adhesions, but I thought the pain didn't match the description. My scar is much higher, so that might be the reason for the higher pain, too.

I had that Jenn - it terrified me in my first pregnancy.

Well, I know gall bladder problems can flare up in pregnancy...and abdominal muscle stretching pain can be bad (altho mine is usually second trimester, once I really start straining the goodwill of those muscles once more, lol).

I am sorry you are dealing with this. I'll have to remember the part about the adhesions (altho my scar is MUCH lower---down there under that "flap").

Rachel

Had the same pain in all my pregnancies, but it was especially bad during my second pg. I wore the same belt/brace Sarah talked about. It's a real pain in the heat, but it does help the pain quite a bit.

Mine, too, even though the pain was much higher. I forget why it is connected. Dh (a doc) tried to explain it to me but I remember being annoyed with him because I was in pain .

I suffer from RLP in most of my pregnancies especially (I've had 3 c/s) my fifth. I would be on the floor unable to be touched by anyone, stuck there for sometimes 10 minutes or more.
My dc's were all so little so they couldn't help me. I would have to say "don't touch Mummy she's fine I'll be up in a minute" they were very painful and constant.

I know how you feel Jen, I found that the pain could sometimes be quite high and then other times on the side lower down. I think I had pain everywhere.

They did say (the doctors) with my last c/s that I had a lot of adhesions and they had to do some work to try to fix me up from the previous c/s which was done poorly. - Thank God I'm still here after that one.

I knew that they were worse for women who have had c/s from my obstitrician. What I'm intrigued by is this brace that you have mentioned. I have never heard of a prgnancy brace for RLP, I have heard of a brace for women who have had 10 children or up (or so) to help the strain on the utereus.

Could someone send a link or somemore info on these braces? I don't need one at this point and I pray that I get to the end of this pregnancy well, but you never know this knowledge might just come in use later.

Jen I will keep you in my prayers. Try standing very still when they come and or lying very still and please take care!

God Bless
Chemai

Yes! Yes! This happens to me a lot. It always happens if I get up too quickly. It hurts and feels like your uterus doesn't quite "follow you" with the rest of your body. I have learned to move slowly when standing up from the couch or getting up off the floor.
