Okay, I know some of you know what to do to support your body when you take antibiotics. As much as I am "Miss all-Natural" here.......no one in my family has ever had antibiotics but one kid once.......and it has been about 21 yrs since I had them......so, I have never really had to deal with it, so I have no idea (acidolphilius, right? taken how?)
I have agreed, painfully, to take a course of antibiotics to see if it would heal this painful tooth of mine.......but, I admit, I am kind of freaked about what it will do to my body
my poor dad was sick for a year (and thought he was going to die) after a round of anitbiotics killed his good bacteria ......taken for a toothache, no less
so, what should I do to keep myself from getting diarrhea or a yeast infection?
Thanks! And please pray that this works, because plan A and B are not too cheap ....and, then I can relax about not needing to find a dentist on my cross country trip ..........WORSE case scenario
God bless!

Turn back into a sixteen-year-old.
Seriously, Kayleigh developed strep throat and was put on antibiotics last week. When the dr. told her she might get diarrhea she stayed home two whole days living in fear. She finally decided "What the hay!"
She never got either one and she's doing fine. Oh, to be young again.

acidophyllis (or however it's spelled.. getting late here) I believe you buy it in capsules.. you want to get one that has been kept refrigerated I believe. Follow the directions on the bottle.. you want to start taking it when you start the antibiotics or asap. And continue for 30 days after the antibiotics are finished.
You want the acidophyllis.. not a mixed probiotics.. there are instances of some of the ones in the mixed overgrowing as well.. some of them aren't even normally found in the gut of an adult.

You'd also want to limit sugars and simple starches (like using ww flour not white flour).. yogurt can be good IF it has live cultures and low sugar.. getting the plain yogurt and sweetening it yourself is one way to get it low sugar.

Chari, I am like you (only one of my kids has ever had antibiotics- in 28 years). Been about 20 years since I have had them. But also resorted to using them a month or so ago, also for a tooth problem.
My guess is that you are UNLIKELY to get a yeast infection from just one use. I had no problems. I suspect you'll be fine.
Yours in Christ,
Kathy

From what I understand, you need to take an acidophilus mix with L. rhamnosis (sp?) in it. I've had the best results with Jarro-dophilus ESP. It's actually one that does NOT have to be refrigerated, although usually those are some of the best. This one doesn't, though, which is good for me because I can keep it in my purse or diaper bag, or else on the counter top to help remind me to take it.
