Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 3 1/2 yo son is all upset because his one ear has buzzing and ringing in it and won't stop.

My books and Googlings are coming up short. Tinnitus? at this age? A sign of something else? He's been having sinus allergies to pollen the last few days. Would this be a symptom?

It's actually not a high pitched noise by his description, but more like a helicopter or bee buzzing, with a lower tone. It's really upsetting him.

My 5yo complained about this all the time, starting around 3 1/2 years old. Every few months I'd haul him into the doctor, they'd test his hearing and tell me he was fine. One time they confirmed an ear infection and gave him Amoxicilin (spelling?). He hasn't said anything about it for 6 months now.

How did you reassure him? At first there was fear that there was something in the room. He doesn't understand it's internal. I gave Benadryl thinking it might be a little reaction or something.

He just broke my heart a minute ago, because he said "Maybe Jesus is telling us we can't have a baby." Of course I explained no, but where does he come up with this stuff????

I'm sorry Jenn, that I don't have any advice. I just wanted you to know that I am praying for your son and you.

Jenn, I just found this~ tinnitus in children ~ it mentions that sinuses can cause this problem in children.

Jenn I will offer my communion tomorrow on the Feast of the Annunciation, for your dear boy's baby wishes and for his ear health, my dh suffers this condition so I feel for little chap. My heart went out to you both to read his comments to you, what a dear little soul he is!

OH, wow, I remember the very first time. I went through EVERY room in the house, looking to see if there was something on that was making any kind of noise. I couldn't find anything. He was crying and putting his hands over his ears. I raced him to the doctor and they found nothing. By the time we got home he said the noise was gone. A day or two would go by, and then the same thing all over again. I started to think there was something wrong with MY hearing because I couldn't hear what he was hearing. Everytime it happened, we would go through the house and then even started to go around the outside of the house, and never did find anything. I just turned it into a hide and seek game ...oh, where is that noise hiding today?!...

I always wondered if his ears were just really sensitive, or really tuned into sounds, like dogs are. There is a field dog training kennel about 1 mile down the road from us, and they use dog whistles alot in their training. We can't hear them, but we can hear the dogs once in awhile. I asked the doctors if that is what he could be hearing, and they said no. But it still makes me wonder...

Jenn, I thought I'd mention what we use for any ear infections in the house which also helps sinsus infections as I've just googled it and also helps prevent the build up of wax which can also be another cause of tinnitus.

We use garlic oil and olive oil. We pop a drop of garlic oil with half a teaspoon of olive oil, heat it gently with a lighter under the spoon and test carefully by putting a fingertip of oil in our own ears to make sure it is 'toasty' not hot or scalding and then we pour it into the child's ear and keep them lying down to keep the oil in well for about 10mins and then pop some cotton wool in to stop it from draining out.

This has cured every ear infection we have used it for, Joseph, my 4 year old seemed to be especially prone to ear troubles when he was younger and we only ever used this remedy and he never has ear troubles now.

I have weak ears as well and I use it regularly, when my ears seem sensitive ~ my herbalist who put me onto the remedy said it was fine to do it a few nights running and then to do it every month as a preventative to possible re-occuring problems...

I could believe it helps sinsus as I put oil in my ears recently and I could taste the garlic in my mouth slightly the next day.

Maybe to google the garlic oil for ear troubles might give extra information about the remedy.

Thanks for the help. He's not feeling pain, but the Benadryl helped him to sleep and he says the noise is gone this morning. I did read something about ear wax build=up that might be the culprit, so I may try to do a little cleaning.

Jenn - this is off the wall, but I had an aunt with a very high level of manganese (I think) in her well water and in her system and it caused a buzzing in her ear.

There are some vitamin deficiencies that cause ear ringing/buzzing...

I can't remember what they are (sorry, preggo brain!)...but I remember reading about it back before I got pregnant, cause I was trying to make sure that I wasn't nutrient deficient (plus, I did have that occasional ear ringing). I'm not having it now, but then again, I'm so maxed out on everything vitamin wise, that I don't know what is doing the trick.

Sorry, but I do hth

Rachel

I have heard that anemia can cause ear ringing. I have had it in the past when my iron levels were really low. Hope you find something that helps your little one!
