Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Ladies, just wanted to tell you I uploaded some of our CM/Montessori geography ideas on my blog today. I stuck the portfolio page we use up there as well as linking to the landform cards and models from the Montessori sites. Hope that helps!

Holy Cow...I was just polishing up a post that I was going to put up on my blog about the very same thing...kinda scary and cool!! Some of the same resources and some different...but pretty much the same thought! I'll try to get mine up by tomorrow...we love doing geography and landforms and such in the summer...there are so many activities that lend themselves very easily to the warmer weather!

Your post was really helpful Kim! I think this is entirely do-able. Just to re-cap, which books do you suggest purchasing?

Kim, I found the downloadable form you included in your post to be very helpful. I am excited to start the notebooks. We have small tart pans that we use for land form pans and plastalina clay for the forms themselves. I find the plastalina very stiff and hard for littles to work with. Anyone have suggestioins on how to soften it or recommendations on another brand?

I like the Geog from A to Z for starters. And by starters I mean anyone who hasnt memorized all those terms. My 11 yo is still working on it. It's a visual thing for me - I like that the pics are easy to copy. Real images are more intimidating. These are done in marker type colors with easy markings for waves and trees so you can see right away how to make a similar drawing. He has a companion bk on maps I linked to but we don't have it yet. It's on my list though since the illustrations look the same.

The Scholastic bk is imo about all you need for everything else for CHEAP. <g> I am probably shooting my Trading Post sales in the foot here but I have the Ultimate Geography bk and others that sit on my shelf and cost several times more. Even have a huge hs ps geog text. It essentially just fleshes out the same things in more detail. So my thought is, get this and use the library or encycl. for the fleshing out.

The Material World is very nice but many libraries have it. There is also a series called A Family From.... that highlights indiv countries. My library catalog and Amazon seem to disagree with me however so I can't find a link. Must be the wrong title. Basically the Material World has been broken down by country into smaller childrens titles. You might be able to find them locally.

Long way to say buy the first two bks and you're good. <g>
