Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I put together a game for my 4 year old on the fly today and it worked out so splendidly I have to share it with you. The other day I came across somewhere doing something called "read, build, write". It entails having a written word that the child first sounds out, then builds with movable alphabet forms, and finally writes it. Well, my little guy has been starting to read this year and so I thought this would be fun to try. I grabbed our Scrabble game, some printing paper that I cut into thirds, and a pencil. I wrote the word and told him to find the letters and build them on the Scrabble holder thing. He loved the idea of "hunting" for the letters and "building" the word...boy words I guess. Right away he noticed the numbers on each tile and started adding up the totals. He wrote the totals for each word he wrote and the words themselves as well under mine. He had a blast and we encompassed reading, writing, and math in one fun game. AWESOME!

That sounds like so much fun! My almost four year old loves a similar game. Even when she doesn't feel like 'reading' (no pressure, we're doing this on her time) she almost always loves to play with the movable alphabet app on our iPad and spell out simple three letter words.

The math addition is GENIUS! I am going to tuck that idea away.
